Good video with some good advice. The main argument against shooting from the hip is not being able to compose the shot like you would through the Viewfinder or LCD Screen. However if you shoot from the hip using the the same focal length you can become very good with lots of practice. You know what height to hold the camera and how close you need to be to get the shot you want. After a period of time you start to see the world in that focal length and can visualise it before taking the shot, knowing what the outcome will be. With lots of practice you become so used to doing it and are able to achieve a very high hit rate. Zone focusing is crucial for this as you don't need to worry about being in focus and can simply concentrate on framing your shot.

Some good thoughts Dr. Robin. Your comment about layering hit home with me. Good composition needs to be more intentional than catching a quick moment in time.

Real Doctor Robin thank you for this therapy session :) One question I see you use the round brass lens hood. Apart from it being stylish, is there a benefit (or downside) from using this lens hood instead of the 'square' one that comes with the camera?

No, it doesn't have any advantages but it adds weight. 😆

Great video! 👏👏👏 Do you also shoot street in Germany? Since I'm not a German language native speaker, shooting street makes me anxious of dealing with confrontations.

People hate cameras and having their pictures taken, especially women. It can cow you down if you let it.

It’s even creepier trying to act like you aren’t taking a photo when you actually are.
