4:00 instead of promoting to a queen, we need to promote to a rook to show off

Excellent puzzle. I didn't see the brilliant queen sacrifice plan. I did get the h2 sac scam once it got that far. These puzzles are sometimes just beyond my level.

Chess question. I thought it was illegal to move a piece if it uncovers the King putting it in check. At 2:37 you under promote to a knight putting the black King into checkmate. Yet for the white Knight to capture the Black King it uncovers its own King to the black Queen. Is this an exception to the rule and it is OK to move a piece and expose your King to check so long as the move results n capturing the opponents King?
@brucea9871Ай бұрын
The Black king is not in checkmate since Black can capture the knight with his queen (in fact that is the only way out of check in that position). But the Black king is still considered in check even though the white knight is pinned by the Black queen. In a case like this the rule is the first king that is lost loses the game. So even though White's king would be exposed to check if the knight captured Black's king (actually the king is never captured; the game ends at checkmate) Black loses because his king was captured first.

A few times you are saying "scam sacrifice" when it should be "sham sacrifice" -- Rudolf Spielmann's term for cases when full material compensation or mate can be easily calculated.
@Chess-strategy9 ай бұрын
Oh, need to think of that in the future. Probably I used the wrong term even if I know it is called sham sacrifice when I think of it.
