I used Facebook, off and on, from 2009 until recently. Took me way too long to break the habit of mindlessly scrolling and wasting time. The better part of 15 years and I can't say it ever led to a close friendship. I will say that my wife and I used it to get a hiking club off the ground but after that I stopped using it altogether. Anyone who wants to be a part of your life will reach out without a social media platform as an intermediary. My life is so much better now because I have actual friends I see a few times a month and do stuff with (softball, hiking, potlucks, whatever). Social media, more than anything, stymies social connection because it tricks people into thinking they have meaningful relationships with others when all they really have is a sad simulacrum.
