Its so awesome to see how far Rokas has come. Its looks just like JiuJitsu, and Judo, and Wrestling, and Boxing once its been adapted to work against a fully resisting opponent or assailant. You obviously don't watch many of Rokas videos, or know much about him at all. EDIT: No Aikido dojo ive ever been to, and ive been to alot of them, has ever honored an actual challenge fight. Muay Thai - one of the few Traditional Martial Arts that is always seen in MMA (UFC, Bellator, One FC). It goes to show that with honesty to oneself, heavy pressure testing, robust training methods, frequent sparring, any TMA can be useful.

Honestly even Wing Chun has a lot of good ideas in it, just after being oppressed for far to long by outdated ideas and cultural views in how it should be trained, it was unfortunately kept down from its true potential. Like when you really study wing chun it's really in my opinion a martial art about what to do when you get really up close and personal with someone when boxing.
@asharedo2 жыл бұрын
Some TMA crumble under heavy pressure testing and frequent sparring though that's the problem. Muay Thai has those aspects heavily intertwined into it, which is why the art is so effective, it exposes what works for us all to see.. Same as Wrestling, submission grappling, boxing etc. Wing chun has spent so much time without pressure testing, that the majority of techniques aren't aligned with reality, with respect to what actually works in the physical world we live in, and what does not.

Next episode: "i traveled back in time and trained with spartans" Jokes aside, you are really doing so many cool things, its getting pretty amazing! Now that you have mma experience and some other combat sports... I am curious about your opinion on 5 tournament types of rulesets 🤔 1st, standing grappling specific styles like sumo and shuai jiao, but mostly sumo, wich also has strikes and weight divisions are not a thing... 2nd, striking styles that have some grappling in them, like jka ippon shobu karate tournaments, sanda, sabaki challenge, shoot boxing... 3th, styles that try to be mma by themself, like irikumi go, japanese kempo and kudo... 4th, styles that mix up weapons and hand to hand, tomiki aikido with knives, sqay with swords and kicks, and tankendo with swords and grappling And 5th, styles that are ridiculously specific to a set of skills, like stationary push hands, sticky hands, toshu randori tomiki aikido, boxing, bjj, etc... Like... What would be better for self defense, but also, wich would you find most fun? I separate standing grappling from specific skillsets because even if it is a specific skillset, it feels like... Very different... I mean, tomiki technically fits there too, but one of the things all those styles have is that they usually allow throws the styles that go to the ground do not allow... Like armlock throws found in sumo and aikido, or belt lifts and drops like belt wrestling...
@jestfullgremblim80022 жыл бұрын
This is kind of a hard question haha. I would say that all of them have value for a self defense scenario, my favorite one has to be #1, but that's just my favorite one. I need to point out that Sticky hands and push hands are not a fighting style but a fighting drill/exercise. If they were an actual style, they would be one of the worst things ever lol. Anyways, i'll try to give my thoughts on the list, i would say that #1 is awesome because if there is no weight divisions, you are forced to learn how to defeat a stronger/bigger opponent, and standing grappling by itself has always been awesome for self defense, powerful throws like ippon sepi nage or a suplex can end a fight by themselves. #2 is really, really good because styles like Sanda and Muay Thai will give you a lot of tools. You will learn to punch and kick, but also how to clinch and to strike from it (which is SO damn helpful), you also learn how to takedown opponents while striking which is something that you could be doing a lot in street fights, catching kicks is usually not taught in grappling styles, but styles like Muay Thai? Hell yeah #3 On paper, these styles are awesome but they are mostly trained in a pretty unrealistic and ineffective way, but if you are able to make them work (it will probably take a lot more time than the other choices, unless you have a partner that is willing to help) but if you do, you will probably surpass the other options #4 These are also aweome on paper, but for a self defense scenario, you will probably not be carrying weapons. If you do carry weapons like knives to defend yourself, then this is the best option. Btw, don't take a sword/spear martial art, you will not be able to use it haha, take a knife or stick fighting one, like Kali or Silat. #5 Similar to number 3, this one will take a lot of time to reach the others, but if you get a partner to train your specific ruleset against someone that does not follow it, you will be able to use your art effectively, this, like the others, depends on the situation. It does not matter how good you are at ground fighting, if you go against three guys at the same time, they will mess you up. Anyways, if you practice boxing against someone that kicks and grapples, then you will learn how to get around it, and as sports like boxing amd Aikido do not have as many techniques as other arts, you have way more times to get really good at each one, this also applies to Taekwondo, you have way more time to get good push kicks, and spinning kicks, but you need to train them agaisnt someone that isn't going by Taekwondo rules or otherwise, you are not going to be able to use it effectively.

@@jestfullgremblim8002 great answer! I always see 30 degrees is hot but that is only 86 degrees over here in Texas it gets to 97 degrees and 100% humidity so now I am not to worried about going to Thailand. Finally someone who explained the temperature

Do take in mind that this video was filmed in December! So it's much hotter in Thailand in summer :)

I am not going to lie. I was about to flip out if I had to hear the word beast one more time, but as someone who has done some taekwondo, boxing, and now does judo and jujutsu with the commitment I've followed Rokas's whole journey, and from one martial artist to another I do have to say I admire the transformation. That being said I appreciate very much the growing respect you give to some of the traditional or less quality controlled martial arts. For example, I train Japanese jujutsu along with my judo, and Jujutsu has an iffy reputation, but if you find a good place it's incredible.

You should make a video where you compare Aikido and Hapkido.

Mad respect to you. I just stumbled upon this but I remember your first videos when you still had your Aikido club. I transitioned from Karate Shotokan to Kyokushin to Olympic TKD then did some boxing BJJ a little MMA to finally specialize in Kickboxing/Thaï boxing. Since all the rule change in TKD many of my fellow coaches who own clubs have been telling me behind closed doors about their displeasure with where their martial arts is now. To which I would reply, just change your school... Like you I choose just move on. Styles don't matter, being honest and objective with yourself and what you teach is. Kudos. You got a new subscriber, would love to see more of your training at Tiger MuayThai.

Amazing video and very inspiring, I'm making my own way to become a beast so, so much of what you said reached to me, I would loved if I could go to train to Thailand, maybe someday. Keep it strong man and take care!

It's really cool to see someone undertaking a modern day Musha Shugyo! You remind me a bit of a real life Ryu; turning into a real World Warrior lol. If you're able, I'd love to see you spend some time in Okinawa (the birthplace of Karate) and study the various styles of karate. It really is much different from what modern karate in mainland Japan and the rest of the world usually practice.

You never know how far you've come from the start untill you look back and see all those behind you just starting. I never realized how much I'd grown from my first two years of lifting untill I met up with an old friend who we used to be similar build (scrawny).
