The fact that she would have liked him all along if he had just had to courage to talk to her earlier or even if he had told the truth about not knowing Connor to begin with😢
@bobjames3426 Жыл бұрын
I disagree because up to this point they had mostly only connected through memories of Connor. Without that Evan would have been no different to her than any other guy
@Uncertain_Pine11 ай бұрын
@@bobjames3426That’s straight up just not true. She says at the end in the orchard scene that she wished that was the first time they met, because if it was they would have fallen for eachother. If Evan had either told the truth or the lie never fell apart they would have been together no matter what. She loved him even after everything, but she couldn’t have him because she couldn’t bring herself to forgive him.
@tisme942010 ай бұрын
@@Uncertain_Pine its always nice to pretend things were destined or are destined. No they're not. This was the only way someone like her could've given someone like him a chance. And it was a SLOW process.
@Doomzdeh8 ай бұрын
@@Uncertain_Pine Zoe said that in hindsight out of wishful thinking, largely because she was still in love with Evan and wished that they had fallen in love without all of the deceit. At the beginning of the story, Evan is awkward and extremely insecure. Even if he had worked up the courage to talk to Zoe, he likely would’ve messed it up without the vulnerability she shows after Connor’s death. The fact is that Evan only had a chance with Zoe because she was vulnerable after Connor’s suicide and because this drove Evan to put aside his own insecurities to comfort her. She only accepted that comfort from him because he told stories about Connor. Connor was the thing that got them to connect.
@theconservativechristian73086 ай бұрын
@@Doomzdeh Lots of good points here on both sides. I personally think it would have played out the same in either instance. Based on what we DO know, if Zoe is telling the truth then she already had an eye for Evan from the sidelines, because presumably that was her type and she was just waiting to see if Evan would make the first move. The reason why I would say it would have played out the same is because Evan would NEVER have made the first move given his anxiety if this event never forced them to interact. and thus, Evan was doomed to never be with her whether by his lies, or whether by his inaction to make the first move. UNLESS we have reason to believe Zoe would have made the first move then even then we can probably say that both of them would have grown up and gotten out of their high school phase and realized that their "love" was just hormones. It seems that either way you spin it, Evan was never going to be with Zoe. Ironically, his BEST chance was through Connor and the only way that he could have made it work out was to keep the lie alive, but keep it hidden. And even IF they still someone got together in high school we know that statistics show that a fringe minority of high school relationships end up in marriage. So even under the presumption that either party made the first move and they became a thing in high school, they DEFINITELY would not have been together long term unless you apply "movie logic" where the protagonist always wins and gets the girl in the end. But even under movie logic we are never told what happened to them down the road and thus we can reasonably conclude Evan would have never ended up with Zoe long term. My 3 cents anyway.
