CD's, Cassettes & Vinyl are kinda unique....and drive me insane. Very loud, and sometimes very annoying, but also pretty cool, I like 'em. Let's look at them! Why didn't anyone tell me it's all Sonys fault, shakin' my head.

I absolutely love CDs man. It's so nice when you've collected a bunch of them and can display them next to/on top of each other, whenever I look at them it is just a great feeling. I'm 15 year old so I don't have a lot of money and that's the reason why I don't buy vinyls, but when I'm older I wanna collect vinyls too. Remember guys: buying music, in whatever way, is much better for the artist than streaming it or, even worse, illegally downloading it. Buying your favorite albums doesn't cost that much (if we're talking about buying them digitally or CDs) and can support the musician a lot.

For finding/exploring new music, streaming is great, but it’s when you rlly love something (or it’s marked down in price at the local goodwill) that you get a physical copy (vinyl/CD/cassette). It has that collector element to it that’s always prevalent in fan culture, yk? Not to mention the sonic differences per each medium
@_Opalescence
@_Opalescence 2 жыл бұрын
I mean, there are sonic differences that are relevant but usually they're just...you know, worse. Listening to an album on a vinyl record is fun and all but it does sound noticeably lower quality. Plus it skips and crackles and hisses, which is super fucking annoying. Cassettes and 8tracks sound better but they also have a stupidly low shelf life because magnetic tape tends to degrade so quickly.

There’s just something so special about physical formats of music, especially vinyl. There’s something for me to hold my hands on, and look back at, reflecting on the memories that album gave me. And while listening to an album, I can look through the art within the sleeves and cover for it.

I agree, I hate how people digitalize everything. It’s fun to hold something physical and cool looking again. Kinda like books, you’re more engaged when using something physically than on-line. With loads of notification and new music that keep popping up, i find it difficult not to jump from one song to the other, However listening to a CD it keeps me locked into the band and their music with totally no distractions from any other source. thus CD is why i purchase them it keeps me focus Stay safe

I love CDs, there are a lot of em nowadays being practically given away. One that I found during a college event was being given away by the radio station amongst a bin of other random CDs, and it’s absolutely fire. It’s like this nasty album cover with jpeg compression around like a setting moon with papyrus font for its title, but the music is like… so evocative of that late 90s early 2000s jazzy spa almost vaporwave vibe. It’s impermanence by Michael Manson for those curious. Just some random thing that turned out to be awesome

To me listening to vinyl is like an experience. You have to take it out, you look at the beautiful packaging and the artwork, sometimes the vinyl is colored which I absolutely love, you place the needle on it, you cannot skip a song or go back (not easily anyway), and then you gotta turn it halfway. All this on a home sound system, no bluetooth. Which means if you're going to listen to it, you will stay in that room and you will interact with it rather than just listening to a playlist on a bluetooth speaker and not paying much attention

Me and my friend are trying to get all the mainstream audio types, I’ve got the most CDs, but he’s got a few vinyls, a fair amount of cassettes, and even 2 8-track tapes. There’s just something about listening to music on these old physical and niche formats that’s so fun and interesting, even if the audio has no low frequencies and the rest is covered in scratches and artifacts, we just say that the piece of media has “gained character with aging like fine wine”. Hence why if we wanna listen to music nicely, we buy CDs of it. But also being invested in music production and DJ-ing thanks entirely to Daft Punk and friends, we also wanna get lots of records later someday to be able to DJ oldskool style

I use CD or MP3 because they are affordable and don't have ads. I also just like the interaction of popping in a cd. Mp3 is just for making playlists.

Long story short, most CDs are going to give you the best quality possible, vinyls are great to listen to original mixes and not modern blown out mixes, they also have their own tone since it's literally a needle dragging across a disk. Vinyls also got amazing covers and custom disks.

My best vinyl memory came today. I was shopping in Target and i saw TPAB so I picked it up and payed for it. I then walked into Marshal's, which was where my mom was shopping. I was looking for her when I walked over to the fitting rooms, and the female worker had her coworker friends there. They struck a conversation up and we talked for 7ish minuets, and I looked down at my valued album, and I looked at the workers and in that moment i decided to donate it to them, so I asked the group "hey, are any of you a fan of Kendrick Lamar?" And 2/3 said no, the 1 that said yes, I handed TPAB to her and I backed up. Her coworker friend said "wait why did you do that?" I said "why not? Have a nice day." I have never seen someone so excited over a vinyl. Thanks for reading

Love the resurgence in vinyl popularity. Some old fellow sees an opportunity to make a quick buck, thrifts it, and I get my Van Der Graaf records for like $5 at best. Then there's King Crimson which somehow never sells below $30

I also love the resurgence of vinyls, although I do hate how much vinylheads pretend as if they sound better. They crackle, they hiss, they pop, they have inner groove distortion and even when they're brand new, the end of the record always sounds considerably worse than the beginning. They're also fragile and they lose sound quality every time you play them. They're a ton of fun to collect, they're a real work of art, and I'm glad they're popular still, but people be acting stupid as fuck about vinyls.

@@HeartlessValiumWhore it all really depends on the record and the turntable, my copy of aja by Steely Dan after a quick clean sounds incredible(better than digital) with almost no background noise. While I can't get anything by foo fighters to sound great no matter how much cleaning I put in. Digital is just more consistent

as an artist who does physicals at home, there's interesting and notable noise styles that come from each player especially if the quality's low. for example vinyl likes to crackle, cassettes like to hiss, and cds also sometimes hiss depending on the player you use. i find it adds to the aesthetic of my music in particular which nowadays tries to mimic found footage recordings.

The process of creating your own playlists goes back way further than cassettes. Record changers that allowed you to stack multiple records to be played in succession have existed since 1927, and before that some portable record players had compartments store multiple records inside. Later on with the success of the 45 small record booklets with handles became popular amongst teens in the 50s, and after that 8 tracks were the first true first form of general consumer tape that people would create playlists on

I grew up with CDs so I'm gonna be biased towards them. They're compact as their name states and you just have to store them somewhere safe and they last ages. They're just better, smaller, cheaper versions of vinyl (and they're easier to pirate stuff onto but don't tell anyone)

Music streaming and buying digital albums is definitely very easy. It's also very handy since you don't actually need physical space to store the music. Which is really neat if you don’t have much space. But there's just something special about physical music. The ability to hold it in your hands & look at it, and (especially with vinyl) the ritual that comes with it.

I like all three because I like owning music. I especially like CD and cassette (especially cassette) because it's cool to be able to just record a bunch of songs onto a physical thing and have them there, without having to pay a subscription to listen to it. I can just put it on a shelf and have it there for however long I want. The fact that you can put whatever music or audio on a cassette at any point, too (as opposed to it being digital files loaded on from a computer) is just really neat. Besides, it supports the artist!

I grew up (in the 70s) calling them records (any type generically), albums, or 45s. It's been 10 years of this renewal and vinyl still sounds weird to my ears. And vinyls plural just sounds flat out ungrammatical. I guess this is classic case of an old guy (50s) being set in his ways, lol. They weren't called vinyls in the 20th century. You bought your music at the record store, not the vinyl store.
