The media platforms that said this movie would be “dangerous” to see: 1. That is asinine. I can watch the Saw franchise without acquiring a taste for kidnapping people and making them go through trauma just to survive even though most of them die. 2. They don’t know, like most people, what the Streisand effect is and it shows. The more you want to hide something, the more people will want to see it. It’s just the way it works.

Totally agree that Joker, as a character, is so much more interesting when we know almost nothing about him. The idea that he's someone that another could become, like, say Captain America, is interesting, but I think the Joker works best when he's almost like a slasher movie villain -- there is a force that the heroes don't understand and it's killing them -- they don't know why and it doesn't matter why, it's just a force of violence. Part of what made Dark Knight great was that Ledger's Joker personified that, basically appearing out of nowhere, organizing a criminal enterprise and bringing a city to its knees -- all of that is basically silly, and Nolan over-compensated in Dark Knight Rises, BUT the idea that someone could come out of nowhere and upend your existence, with no attributable rhyme or reason is truly horrifying. A villain like the Joker is effective because you don't know how to fight him. We can fight things like pandemics, robbers, rioters, etc. (disagreements on how to fight those things are acceptable, except for the pandemic -- get the damn vaccine ASAP), but we can't fight things we can't understand.

I think at the end of the movie when he's on the cop car he eventually gets arrested again. Then when he's talking to the lady and laughing, he's laughing about what he did and knows she won't find it funny so doesn't tell her. I think the kills did happen and he was just reminiscing because she was asking him questions about what he did, then she probably pushed to get him to tell her "what's so funny?", causing him to kill her and try to escape.

My thoughts on Joker: ... Meh. First of all, I'll never, ever consider it as a DC movie. Todd Phillips even admitted himself, that he wanted to make a character study movie, and he decided to make it about a comic book character, so that it had a better chance of being greenlit. It's not a Joker movie. It's a movie about some guy called Arthur. (I actually walked into the cinema with all this in mind). That aside though. I didn't really enjoy it until the end. I felt like it ended just as it was getting good. It certainly highlights some really important socio-political views about untreated mental health conditions and it's impacts. And I wish they would have just done THAT film, without overshadowing it with all the "This is a Batman movie" elements.

@@OnMyMindEntertainment One thing that's worth mentioning; This film highlighted (to me) how climatized audiences are to "watered down" violence in movies. When Joker premiered at the Venice Film Festival, people were talking about how disturbing & violent it was. In all honesty... It's nowhere near as violent as a Die Hard movie. However, in Die Hard, bad guys get shot, they basically collapse and become immediately incapacitated, and then the camera cuts away. We never see that moment of hopelessness that the bad guy feels when he's bleeding out to death, knowing his children will have to live out the rest of their lives without him. Audiences aren't used to that. And I think it's somewhat irresponsible to dilute how truly terrifying it is to get shot. And how horrible it is for you to shoot someone else. #HotTake

Honest Trailers caught on to the propaganda saturation. Amazing how it's just banker dudes harassing the woman on a train, clearly the writers have never ridden on one or had to stand at bus stop with pushy guys harassing unchecked, even following women onto the bus to continue. I guess oddly cherry picked social messages are tight to those sending them. Women in some big cites are serious problems in some public in areas. I think the movie helped reset the Joker. Anyone would have had a problem following Ledger's joker because many fans were so attached to him and the actor. The Joker has changed over and over, there really is no basic Joker. It's strange for a major character because it's not just a costume change, yet normally it works. In a way having a new Joker was something to look forward to, he can change in ways the super hero cannot. Idiot's version was due to his total ineptitude and fan boy fascination with currant gangster styles along with a complete inability to overlay them on his Joker. The actor really couldn't do much with the pile of steaming **** handed to him. It pressed all the wrong buttons, but it did let the rabid fans of one Joker rendition to focus their ire and get it out. There was bound to be dislike. This Joker is character driven, something rarely seen with comic characters now, so it has weight , much like Ledger's Joker even though it was an Batman action movie. This one is character detergent, washing away the battles, failures and losses that has become associated with Joker. having it not be the real Joker would be perfect. Storms over, dust settled and they can get back to using the character as they please.The audience is ready to fondly remember the past but not live there. Bringing in Leto's Joker, in different hands may have some disgruntled fans backtracking on the hate or at least aiming it where it belongs. It also opens the possibility of using unseen footage from Suicide Squad, adding more and redeeming the version.Thus, Leto's ruffled feathers would be soothed, both fan camps satisfied and a possible Leto Joker for a few more movies. I don't think the guy's ego was resting too well after starring in the Idiot's Guide to ****ing Up A Movie. He took most of heat and was barely in it, payback time with a slamming performance, if he can pull it off. We'll see.
@OnMyMindEntertainment3 жыл бұрын
You're absolutely right about how there really is no basic Joker. We've seen different iterations of the Joker. I'm just really hoping they aren't actually trying to make a sequel to this. This works perfectly as a standalone story and doesn't need to be tied into a bigger DC world.
@aevalk83693 жыл бұрын
@@OnMyMindEntertainment I agree. A stand alone drama is just fine. I don't think the fans would mind either, most seem ready for Joker to be back on track.

Joker did not resonate with me in the slightest. It is a less subtle, less nuanced, and not as well ditected Scorsese classic. Perhaps is it intended as a satire, buy even then, it is not as caustic and darkly funny as it should have been. If it was intended as a serious film, it is comically uber-dramatic, with a Joaquin Phoenix overplaying to death his scenes...I was disappointed, though the film has at least the merit of raising some important socio-economic, and cultural issues. Must be in the minority on this one, buy, hey, opinions and such...😁
