I actually loved this movie as a kid. I was about 8 years old when i saw Batman Forever and i really liked it. The costumes were great (I couldnt care less for nipples, as a child, really), i love the soundtrack, i loved how they integrated the dark past of bruce and how he constantly has to deal with it and suffers from the flashbacks (something the burton movies were missing), how the villains use his broken psyche, how bruce looses to edward nigma and has to deal with a destroyed batcave, a kidnapped love,..i love the different batman weapons and the special effects...that was really cool. It is really a kids movie and its not for adults, thats for sure. But you gotta remember: Batman in the 90s: the animated series and the comics of Paul dini were so popular, also the tim burton movies, the toys, the shows at warner brothers movie world, the franchise of mc donalds. I mean, batman was really everywhere. And it really applied to the fantasies of little boys that wanna feel like batman. It was was really superficial, especially the dark stuff and how bruce is always reminded of his parents death, but that was better solved than in the first two movies. Now, as an Adult, i would rate this movie a solid 7/10.

The REALLY sad part of this is that with a better script and direction, this was actually a REALLY strong cast for a Batman movie, Hell, even Bob Kane said that Val Kilmer was the BEST Batman he'd seen up to that point(obviously he passed before the Nolan-Verse, which is a shame he never got to see those)!

Yeah, he could have been a good Batman, but just like Ryan Reynolds with Green Lantern and Deadpool v1.0, he gets grief for stuff that was completely out of his control, the writing and direction. I never really liked the last two Batman movies in the 90s. The first Tim Burton's Batman films were good enough for me. Technically, the success of Burton's movies led to the making of Batman the Animated Series by Warner Bros animation, which is considered one of the best cartoon ever made and one of Batman most faithful adaptation. It's also one of the reason that Mark Hammill became the iconic voice of the Joker, starting his voice acting career at the same time. This also led to the making of the DC animated universe by Warner Bros who produced DC cartoons from 1992 to 2006 who were also faithful to other DC characters, but they also took a more mature approach (dark elements, allusions to death , blood, allusions to drugs, violent beatings during fights, guns, .SERIOUS sexual innuendos, disturbing representations of mental illnesses and sadism, etc). In other words, Tim Burton helped making Batman popular once more for new audiences, giving him the dark and mature elements that we associate with him today. Before his first 1989 movie, the vision that most non comics readers had from Batman was from the 1966 TV series starring Adam West. That was a huge gamble at the time for Burton since movie studios thought that superheroes movies were risky and silly. Like your reaction!

Normally I like Tommy Lee Jones' work. His performances, even when a bit grander than called for, are interesting; but this time his competition with Jim Carrey in full manic mode was a mess. Robin Williams in his prime may have been able to match him, but it's doubtful. It would have worked better if Jones had dialed it all the way back to opposite with a scary, brooding performance. Maybe they didn't let him because they wanted loud colorful craycray set on extreme. Could have been some ego too because Jones does tends to easily dominate whatever film he's in; that wasn't going to happen with a living Looney Tune for a co-star. Carrey gave it his all and worked for the Riddler who always seemed a bit squirrely. I don't really see Chase as perving on Batman, the word doesn't fit, it's too strong and too often misused. She's someone who has hots for a guy and throws herself at him. It's not liked she forced anything, he was free to say no, walk away. Yes, she was wrong to trick him, but he wasn't assaulted like the man in WW. It also brings out the fact that a lot of women, if Batman was real, would be spending a great deal of time dreaming of getting into the batsuit too. It is interesting to deal with the continual problem of being a larger than life hero that women want, but don't know personally, compounded by being extremely wealthy in his day life, making it uncertain if it's money they want. At some point such a man would have the hardest time if he sought a real lasting relationship. Batman in the early films was lonely, too lost in the past and unable to find someone due to his weird life and wealth. I always wanted Cat Woman and Batman to be a permanent pair, it worked perfectly with Selena Kyle. Both, out of costume, were damaged, lonely, a bit emotionally awkward, but found something special with each other. Both were larger than life and very powerful as their alter egos. Robin, maybe it's the name, maybe it was little icky at times in the past, but he never worked for me. His big makeover later was the best thing the boring birdy. Sidekicks can be problematic, they can't be too interesting and overshadow the star, but too often they're a costumed or inept meh. He's meh with a capital M, always wished he'd fly south for the winter and stay there. Honest Trailers was very funny this time and it's hard to pick between then as Pitch Meeting was on target as usual.

"Oh no! It's boiling acid!" That line reminds me of playing in the living room... "Oh no! It's boiling lava! Don't touch the floor!" It had the same delivery whether Boiling Acid guy was delivering it, or me/my siblings! The movie was terrible! I didn't like Jim Carrey for a non-comedic movie. Great in comedies, but... It was as if Carrot Top was delivering a sermon! Now, he was emulating or trying to recreate the riddler of Frank Gorshin, who was absolutely brilliant for the campy style of the time. As usual, though, to quote Swoozie Kurtz from Liar Liar, he was "overacting"!! The nipples were what I remember the most, though, and I even forgot all about Robin! Lois and Clark were a show that I did not watch...not enough action, too much drama. Smallville, on the other hand... Thanks for bringing this! I think both videos were funny but I will give it to PM, only because of the rave, the televised circus on the news, and the big freakin' nipples!!

This is why you don't entrust a Batman movie to someone whose primary reference point was the 60s tv show. Which was a good show, but needs to be left as is.
@northwindkey3 жыл бұрын
The sad thing is, that wasn't Schumacher's reference point. In fact, the original cut Schumacher had was a lot more in line with the Burton films. Focus groups were the ones who cut the film to pieces and left it the confused mess of a film it is.
