A superb restoration, to think that this pen has been laying in a box unloved for many years until you came along and rescued it, a lovely size nib and a smooth writer, a great loss to pen enthusiasts that this system is no longer made. Chris B.

Congratulations, Sylvia. Another beautiful pen from England's best. The plunger filler is such a clever system; pity others didn't follow (i.e., without internal sacs, like Sheaffer.) Lucky me picked up a 6233 model (2-band and the same colour) for a closing time 'special price' at the Melbourne Pen Show three weeks ago. It was the first in three years and everyone was happy to be there. As always, Stef, many thanks from the SAS SB (Sheaffer Appreciation Society of Suggan Buggan.) Yes, it is a real place.

Lovely pen / restoration / video. Thank you for sharing. Onoto was very famous in Japan for being the first modern FP import. One can still find tributes to earlier models like the one used by a famous writer, Soseki. If you don’t mind I have 3 questions 1) that pen’s casing was probably celluloid or? 2) when did FP makers switch from plunger fillers to lever/sac? 3)I have a Japanese pen with a feed like that (smooth surface opposite the nib). Was that just the style of the time or something DeLaRue did as a design? 3b) is that an ebonite feed? Thank you for your time. It’s hard to get an overview of these ways of dating a pen for newbies. I think Sylvia will be very happy with her new classic pen 🖋️

Thanks for watching Andrew, glad you like it. Yes i would say it is celluloid. In Onotos case i would say circa 1950s. The (smooth) feed design was used by other manufacturers, however the Onoto had the ink cut off inside and yes made of ebonite.

@@penkino1 thank you for the very helpful and informative reply. It’s fascinating how FPs are a combination of craftsmanship and technological know-how, patent laws, and design style evolving I’ve the years. It is such a pleasure to use a classic writer.

I’ve got a green/black marbled 5601 and a black leather Onoto pen casket. Lovely in every respect!
