All the resources and water in the world cannot overcome such extreme fire behavior. Gale force wind and extremely dry conditions due to long term drought creates a disaster no one can contain. This is so heartbreaking.

Wrong. It only happens because people still build houses out of weak, shoddy materials without regard for local environmental dangers. A fireproof house could easily be designed and built using basic materials. Zero wood; just concrete, insulation, and metal.

Stupid games win stupid prizes. People will really build/buy fragile homes vulnerable to environmental effects that happen regularly and reliably in areas affected by said environmental effects and cry and scream when they happen and destroy it. A fireproof house would not be rocket science to build, or even especially expensive.

Australia here, we have some experience with this. This is bad. The high winds are something out of hell and the main problem. Without that high wind coupled with the drought this situation would never have developed. Please remember that this is a a rare confluence of events, (the perfect storm) and we should not blame any one organisation or politician. I am familiar with the California Scrub Oak country and it is highly flammable. And also many people have planted Eucalyptus trees. Yes they are beautiful, but they are deadly. They are loaded with flammable oils. They literally explode during intense fire events, with flames soaring hundreds feet into the sky, sending embers on the wind for miles and miles, igniting fires in distant valleys. I enjoyed my time in LA, i feel very sad about this.
