The melee rolls work exactly like two units shooting at each other... highest roll that is still under your skill number wins, criticals trump non-crits. Don't know why that's so "different"...

I always feel in these videos the bald fella is a bit rough around the edges in how he verbally manages the video flow. He cuts off his opponent often in these videos to say "we'll talk about that later." Often it seems he's trying to be competitive instead of the videos being what the purpose is for: learning rules. Killian is amazing at speaking clearly, calmly, interjecting humor at the right times, and teaching.

didnt the faq say you can walk out of cc against someone in null state??

If the enemy trooper is in a null or immobilized state you may cancel engage with a short movement skill.

I'd say yes... with Physics +3 (Special Dodge with smoke) vs 2 times BS (with a +3 for range and a -3 for suprise shot in this case)?

Throwing smoke vs BS AROs shouldn't have been a face-2-face roll?

Smoke has the special dodge trait, so it can be used in face to face against BS attacks to stop the attacks as long as the smoke template blocks LoF between the thrower and the enemy troopers

20+ cc doesnt add to your result, it just gives you a wider range to crit...

Infinity N3 rulebook page 21 "Attributes above 20 In other cases, accumulating positive MODs can cause the final value of an Attribute to rise above 20. In this case, consider the final value of the Attribute to be 20, but with the peculiarity that the player adds to his result on the die the amount by which the Attribute exceeded 20 (an Attribute of 23 would add 3 to the die). In these cases, any result of 20 or more on the roll is a Critical, if applicable. Attributes above 20 (either from positive MODs or plainly stated in the troop profile) increase the chance of obtaining a Critical result." TL;DR: Yeah it kinda does.
