I bought the SP-10 about 8 years ago , it was 1095 steel then. it stayed in the box in a drawer unused until about 16 months ago. my nephew came to visit, we did some fishing camping and pig hunting. he lives in Houston and had never been out in the woods and he went nuts for it ! so I kitted him out, RAT-1 in Aus-8 , a hammock , a 2 man tent, some miscellaneous stuff. took him to Walmart and picked him a Gamo pellet gun , and then the day before he had to go back home , we were in my shop and he saw that big black ONTARIO box and said " what's that " when he opened it I saw love in his eyes ! I remember my first bowie ...so I said , that's yours too ! this is my brother in laws kid , he's divorced and has him about half the time. his ex is a high priced lawyer , I've never met. so when my 12 year old nephew got home and unpacked his new gear in front of his dad......I got a phone call ! anyway he got to keep all his new stuff , but it had to stay at dads , and he had to promise not to tell him mom about the knives...or the air rifle . he's coming to spend the summer this year , we're going to hunt some more pigs, run some trot lines ....oh and I've got him a bunch of new gear ! I'm the " cool uncle"

I got the sp10 a few years back it must have been made on a Monday or Friday. The edge profile was all out of wack. I sent it to DBAD & he put a new edge on it, he did a video on it. It is a kick ass knife! It's my truck knife.

I have always been lucky when it comes to receiving a new knife . Never an issue . Even some of the used ones I bought on eBay have been fine . But one time ( haha ) I took my Hibben machete ( Rambo 4 ), and I removed all the black coating and tried to put a better edge on it . I really screwed it up bro !! I was ready to toss in the garbage! And then I had asked DBAD if he could fix it . He did !! He sent it back with a much better edge on it . ( this was like 4 years ago or so - we both made videos for it ). I still have it and it’s still bad ass . I have got better over the last couple years when it comes to putting a better edge on - but i would still send to a pro if the edge is really that bad .

Definitely awesome both knifes. the sp50 in 5160 steel is one of my favorites knifes from Ontario Knife co. The other one is the woodsman. They are a little heavy to carry but sometimes we need a bigger knife to do the job. Thanks for the video my friend.

I have both,, but the SP 50 is one of my all-time favorite large knives. Lightweight feels fantastic in the hand and I love the blade shape.

I missed my window of opportunity to get the SP50 as it is sold out in my area. However I managed to get an Ontario Bushcraft Woodsman, which is the civilian stainless version with a wooden handle and looks quite similar to the SP50.🤣 I can live with that.:)

You have great taste brother !! I have the woodsman too and it’s little brother …. Love them both !!! I will send you a link to my video of when I showed the Woodsman combo ….

Ontario's older sheaths were WAY better than the newer "cigarette carton" sheaths. Much smaller/slimmer which makes their big knives easier to wear. Plus, Ontario's older 1095 and 5160 steel was really well heat treated and they get a lot sharper with less effort than the newer 1075 blades. Those are two fine examples you have. Regards, John

My SP10 is a beast. Love to get one of those SP50s tho! Big sale on now too
@davidlagno77176 ай бұрын
Theyre on Amazon right now. Sp10 is 53$ , Sp1 and Sp 6 are around 60$. Theyre not in 1095 anymore but 1075 but thats been about 5yrs now. The quality on them has been going downhill for a while now. My 1075 Survival Bowie looks like a blind guy ground the bevel in and it came severely dull. But my original from 15yrs ago in 1095 came perfect. The sheaths are worse but were always shite. And the 50 has always been hard to get. I think they come in batches and sell out fast. Overpriced too but is one of my favorites. Thats just my 2 cents after being a knife fiend for over 25yrs.

According to a Bladeforums thread, Ontario as a knifemaker is dead and gone forever. New owner Blue Ridge Knives has clarified that they do not intend to try to revive Ontario's classic blades, at least not as US made knives. Once existing inventory is sold, that's it. Blue Ridge may continue having the RAT folders made in Taiwan and sell them. Also, it appears that ESEE did some deal with Blue Ridge to buy some of the Ontario knife making equipment. No one knows anything beyond this. What's incredibly sad is that Ontario made the last affordable American bowie knife. Their SP-10s (Marine Raider Bowie) and SP-5's (Survival Bowie) sold on Amazon for only $40-$50 for over a decade. Even that SP-50 was only around $60-$70 when it was still for sale. Now, no US company makes an affordable bowie knife that's 100% made in the USA. The Ontario SP-10 and SP-5 will become like the original Cold Steel US made Carbon V Trailmasters and Recon Scouts did after Camillus went under - highly collectible and expensive. Ontario as a company tried for decades to hold the line and sell real 100% made in the USA blades big blades for affordable prices. But between Ontario hiring a bad CEO, who decreased Ontario's quality control, and Americans choosing to support Communist Chinese products instead, they didn't stand a chance. Just incredibly sad. Anyone who has one of these blades should hang on to them, because we will never see anything like them for the price again.
