Two things you can do for additional protection: 1) Have a dealer to verify VIN through the PCM (Powertrain Control Module), main computer for vehicle 2) Go to parts department & have them print out the vehicle options list via the VIN. When VIN is imputed, parts catalog will give you specific information of what options & parts were installed on the vehicle. 3) VIN is etched into the frame of the vehicle dealers should have access to where it's placed.

Heck, cheap scanner tool pulls u the VIN as its firsts piece of data. You do not need a PCM scan. When you do it will tells you the configuration too. I use the one from BlueDriver which is about $99 since it puts all the smarts into my phone so it can be constantly improved.

This exact thing happened to me way back in 1976. I bought a used F150 from a dealer. A couple of months later, while ready to back out of a parking spot at a restaurant, I was surrounded by police. They told me I was driving a stolen vehicle!!! I had to allow them to take the truck but I was able to get it back a few days later. It took a year to straighten everything out but I eventually got to keep the truck.

I had the warrant for 4 years and never knew , I never got a phone call nothing! I found out from a background check here for a contract job with major Hollywood studio! I got hired and then they did the background check and then they let me go because of it! The pay was life changing! I have a lawyer suing the county DA office there and the police department. I worked for a large Toyota Dealership in California and I was doing a SMOG check on a really clean Chevrolet Silverado that we'd purchased from the Auto Auction. I called the Used Car manager and I asked him which Serial Number he wanted me to use. He said what do you mean "Which Serial Number"??? I explained that it had 3 different Serial Numbers and none of them matched. The one in the door jam, the dashboard at the corner of the windshield and the serial number under the Hood were all different. He said don't touch anything I'll be right there. He quickly came out to the shop from his office. He looked at the 3 non matching numbers and said it's going back to the Auction. We won't have anything to do with it. The Auction refunded the Dealership our money. I'm pretty sure that the Truck was originally a Salvaged Title. We caught it before we even offered it for sale but if we had sold it the Customer would have received a complete refund and his inconvenience would have also been made right.

My goodness ! What a difference….Mazda stepped up to the plate and refunded the price of the truck. Ford, GM or Fiat certainly would not have lifted a finger.

Actually they are stealing more Dodge trucks than Ford. Honda and Toyota as well. The Dark Web is awash in thieves buying the technology to do it. No manufacturer is immune.

No, you should only steal one you think will not break down on the way you your shop, not a Ford. 🙂 Seriously though, the F-150 is the best vehicle they ever made.

Just last week, April 28. 2023 / 3 of my friends got their vehicles stolen all Dodge RAM 2022...The theft took place at 3:15 am however the poor policeman came at the 11:30 am to do the reporting He did not bother asking about the content inside the stolen cars. It is really a disgusting and degenerate thing! 🛑🛑
