Hi, Amazing work on the simulator. I like very much the finishing touches you added. It really make s a difference. One day when kids grow up a little I might do something similar. I haven't flown a real plane in last 10 years (Private pilot license and pretty rusty by now) and just now getting into simulators. Still deciding which one to go with but it looks like X-Plane 11 will be the winner. I have one question for you. Is there a reason you decided on a particular projector for your front screen? It seems too pricey and there are other options in the given resolution in the range of $300-$600. Is there something different you would recommend? Thank you and good luck in your flying, both virtual and real!
@OnTheGlideslope7 жыл бұрын
+TheOzembuch thanks for the comment. I had to go with an ultra short throw because of space limitations. I tried two others and they wouldn't work in that room without casting a shadow from the top of the cabin. Believe me I wished for a more affordable option.

Hi. Great videos! Would you give us a first person view from the pilot seat using the GoPro ? I would like to see what's the perspective with the side monitors and the projector. Where can I find information on how you split the info on all monitors including the Lilliput? Thanks! For video request I'll say either some Pacific Northwest or Caribbean island hopper flights.
@OnTheGlideslope8 жыл бұрын
Hi Leonardo and thanks for watching and for your comment. Sure, I'm happy to try a first-person view with the GoPro. Not sure how the field of view will work out, but I'll give it a shot. In terms of the monitor setup, you can see more here: www.ontheglideslope.net/2016/05/18/how-to-creating-custom-cameras-in-prepar3d-v3/ As for the Lilliput, I just have it plugged in as a fourth monitor into my video card. Windows 10 sees it as a monitor, and I have it set to less-than-HD to save on video memory. I then just drag the GTN 750 over to the screen as an undocked window. Pacific Northwest island hopper flights. Love the idea and I'll work on it! Thanks again.

Good sir, I'm just starting to build my version of something like this. you have been a great inspiration! I think I've watched this video 20 times already!😃 I just grabbed two 1080p 32" TVs from Best buy the other after a good sale they had. I also grabbed a 40" 1080p TV for front view (for now). Question I have is do you think sitting that close to your left monitor, but both ways would work well? as in the right monitor would be just as close. I'm planning a single seater cockpit design based on the Super cub with a middle mounted 10" AirManager tablet/monitor.
@OnTheGlideslope8 жыл бұрын
+Big Tall it probably depends some on the person and the cockpit, but I don't mind being that close to the left monitor. I suggest setting the TVs on something at the appropriate height and width before you build the cockpit frame so you can check it out.

woooow ..... I have to admit that I'm impressed. Very nice and neat build. What is your advice to someone who wants to start building a Cessna sim.
@OnTheGlideslope8 жыл бұрын
I think my first piece of advice is that you can go piece-by-piece. The frame wasn't too difficult to build myself. Next is get used equipment where you can find it. I actually have some Saitek stuff that I'm selling right now at www.ontheglideslope.net that can help you get started. In fact, there's a lot of information there that can help with your build. But you don't need to do it all at once. Start with some controls and a 32-inch screen (that can later become a side window) and go from there.

Ryan, superb job putting your sim together. We take a different approach, but with the same goal in mind, to create an immersive basement sim. Looks like nice craftsmanship as well. Very nice!A question for you: I've considered doing a projection screen before with wrap around view, but was not pleased with the space it would take to adequately project a large image. Also the resolution of a projector didn't match that of an actual monitor. What resolution do you have on your monitor, and what brand is it that makes a short throw image?Rick

Hi Muzik. I just drag it down with the mouse, and then drag the right border over, and then the bottom border down, both using the mouse to size the window. That's been easier for me than trying to drag from the corner.

hi, again , very impressed!! If i may ask, you look like a tall guy, I myself am more the 6 feet tall, and from the look of the video your Eyepoint seems to be about the upper edge of the side monitors. is that not a bit to high? how high are this screens from your floor? i am gonna build one like yours, and think of replacing the front beamer with a 55 inch LCD monitor, in your opinion, is that possible? to get allignment with side screens, you have 100 inch field of front view, that is big. thanks for your answers, and keep the videos comming, i realy like them.
@OnTheGlideslope8 жыл бұрын
The camera eyepoint is at my eye-level, although the mount for the GoPro in my other videos is a bit above that. That's just a function of the mount. I'm just over 6 feet tall myself, and things look perfectly fine from my vantage. On the beamer, I've been asked this question a lot, and the answer is that for both the pilot and passenger to have uninterrupted views without seeing the edge of the screen I need about that much width (100 inches). I also like being able to look around the corners when I fly (just as I would in the real world). Watch some of the other videos in my channel and you'll see what I mean.

Correct, and thank you Peter. Thanks, too, Eddie for the comment. It took a lot of tweaking to get the camera configs just right. That post on the blog explains a lot f it. Thank you very much for your answers. I whas thinking of building a 747 400 pit based on PSX from Aerowinx.com, but do not have the room to do it. In my setup I have 3 Tv screens , and for the instrument panel there are several options to run it on a seperate pc or use Saitek flightpanels. The G750 is my main concern, a fourth monitor would stress the system, and I think it can not be networked. Do you know a way to use a seperate pc as fourth monitor? There whas Maxivista, but there site is down, and I do not want to use a Ipad. Sorry to bother you with these questions, and again thanks for sharing your flights and info with us! Ivo

Thank you for your comment and for watching. I know lots of simmers run the instruments on a separate PC, and there are several applications that let you do so. HI, Great video. thanks for sharing. Just a quick question, how did you get the saitek multi-panel to work with P3d. I tried SPAD was not able to get anything working so far. Thanks
@OnTheGlideslope8 жыл бұрын
Hi. Thanks for the kind words and for watching. I've never had any problem with the multi-panel. It just worked with the latest Saitek drivers, and it just works with SPAD.neXt. When my Saitek gear has been problematic it's nearly always been because of voltage loading issues on the USB hub, and not having enough power in particular. I need 500ma per unit for them to work well, meaning I can only plug four Saitek units at most into a 2amp hub. You read more about my experiences with that stuff here: www.ontheglideslope.net/2016/04/22/power-to-the-hub/ Hope it helps, and thanks again for watching.

Hello and thank you for your comment. I use virtual cockpit views. The movement you see is from the dynamic head movement. You can find a set of dynamic head movement settings in the FSX configuration file (fsx.cfg I think?). Set all the dynamic head movement settings to zero and that should fix it.

@OnTheGlideslope8 жыл бұрын
No bother at all. I have moved the eye point forward in the C182 so that I can no longer see the compass.

Hi Great, Set up,Can you run the GTN on an Ipad and if so what software to connect?CheersNeil m - London,Uk
@OnTheGlideslope8 жыл бұрын
Hi and thanks for the comment. I run the GTN on a touchscreen monitor, but I believe you can run it on an iPad through one of the apps that allows Windows / Mac to see your iPad as a monitor. I played with some of these, including one called Air Display, but I found none of them worked really well for me. So I ultimately just decided on a monitor.

Hi. love the setup. quick question. Does the Flight 1 GTN 750 work on a separate pc to flight sim ie through FSUIPC?
@OnTheGlideslope8 жыл бұрын
Hi and thanks. No, it's on the same PC as the sim. But I do have it running on a separate core than the main sim.
@eliassmith20118 жыл бұрын
+On The Glideslope thanks. i am impressed with this. does your Web site give the computer specs. I'm running an old i7 920 for the sim with another old pc for the instruments.
@OnTheGlideslope8 жыл бұрын
It does. There's a "what's in the sim" item in the "About OTG" menu at www.ontheglideslope.net.

Great sim are u able to let me know what is the approx cost for the projector and screen and where did you get them .thanks
@OnTheGlideslope8 жыл бұрын
Hello Amr. The screen was not very much and I got it at a local computer / video store. The projector is an ultra-short throw and it was expensive, but if you have more room in the simulator space than I did you can probably use a short throw and save money. See more on the rig here: www.ontheglideslope.net/in-the-sim/

How did you get your projector to project the cowling and propeller so perfectly?

Tweaking the alignment. See the post on screen configuration / custom cameras in the How To section at www.ontheglideslope.net

Where did you find the of the 172 panel?
@christianthomas71588 жыл бұрын
hi I've almost finished the frame structure and need some measurements for the panel. I know it's 46inches across the cockpit but what's the width of it please? also how much leg room do you have? I'm 6ft 2" and you look pretty tall in your vids! again a great sim and huge amount of info has been gained from your website. oh and another thing did you ever consider using a large screen TV instead of projector? like maybe a 55inch LCD screen? thanks in advance
@OnTheGlideslope8 жыл бұрын
Cockpit is 48" across, and the panel is 46". It sits on a 48-inch wide piece of MDF that runs the full length of the cabin. The extra inch on each side allows room for the glare shield, which is made out of 1-inch foam covered with leatherette. Leg room is no problem, I probably have about a foot or so under the panel. I have thought about a large TV screen, but I like being able to look around the corners of the cockpit like in real life ... also, the projector as more affordable.

+On The Glideslope thanks very much for the info. I meant the top of the panel to the bottom. don't think I explained properly. thank you for taking the time out to reply. keep up the fantastic work!! oh and a flight over south west Wales next if possible?? my local airport is pembrey ;-)
@OnTheGlideslope8 жыл бұрын
Certainly. 18 inches at the centerline, top to bottom. That's the actual height of a 172 panel. And I'll put Wales on the list!

+On The Glideslope hi from across the pond again! sorry for so many questions and thank you for the rapid replies so far. last question now I promise:-) How high does your instrument panel sit off the floor? from floor to top of the glare shield? thanks very much
@OnTheGlideslope8 жыл бұрын
Two feet from the floor to the bottom of the panel, and 3'6" from the floor to the top of the panel. 3'7" to the top of the glare shield.

Very impressive! I am considering building something like this. I have most of the sim equipment you have, but must confess I migrated to X-Plane so it will be a different journey if I build it. Again, great work! If you not livestreaming on twitch.tv you should consider it :)

Thanks. I'll look into it. I think I have to buy an HDTV card for the PC to capture the GoPro stream, but I'll do some research.

Hey can you tell me what apps you have for your avionics on your iPad, g1000 etc
@OnTheGlideslope7 жыл бұрын
+Thecraftersmine676 the iPad six pack is RemoteFight. The iPad on the yoke runs ForeFlight. The GTN 750 is from Flight1. The G1000 is some app from the App Store - don't recall which.

So I went to the website and followed the "How I Configured X-Plane Screens For The Basement Sim" guide on how to setup the interior to get rid of the seats and the cockpit objects. I do it, save the copy, and then boot the sim. Then it crashes after saying that it couldn't find load the sound bank (Master bank.bank). I even tried bypassing the tweaks and just downloading your ACF file and I get the same error and then crash. Any ideas?
@OnTheGlideslope7 жыл бұрын
Hi. Did you get this fixed? For me I hand to make a copy of the ENTIRE C 172 folder and work within it, rather than just making a modified .ACF file in the original 172 folder.

how do you extend the shaft of your yoke are you able to use the co-pilot yoke? thank's
@OnTheGlideslope7 жыл бұрын
Both yokes work but are not connected physically to each other. P3D simply reads both. X-Plane took more work: www.ontheglideslope.net/2016/12/27/solved-how-to-use-dual-controls-in-x-plane-11/

Hello Again Sir! Along with the dual adapter, are you using the PTT switches that come with it or you can use the buttons on the saitek yoke. Thanks
@OnTheGlideslope8 жыл бұрын
Zain Hussein I'm using the buttons on the yoke and they are assigned in FSUIPC.
@OnTheGlideslope8 жыл бұрын
Zain Hussein but that's just for PilotEdge. For the intercom between the two headsets you don't need push to talk (just like real life).
@zainhussein19758 жыл бұрын
sir, if i have understood well, does it mean that if i configure the buttons on the yoke thru fsuipc i dont need the push to talk from the supplier?
@OnTheGlideslope8 жыл бұрын
Zain Hussein correct. You can also assign a keyboard button to be PTT as well.
