Thanks for this fine review FYI- wing flexing is not meant for bumping absorption, but to make sure the wings not disturb your thighs when pedaling.

Yes, the world of saddles is a tad scary. I can see where most of us cyclists would be confused on which to buy. Especially some being very expressive. Been riding for some years now and it seemed that I would get that discomfort around the 80-100 klms mark, and also even hitting the 50klm mark at times. Mind you I've been using a Specialized Toupee for 3- years now. And thought well the saddle hurting is relatively normal in cycling so ... But recently I came across the (Pro Stealth) in the 142mm size and was in awe just looking at one!!! I dove in the deep waters and got one after hearing so many folks speaking very highly on the Stealth Pro. Glad I did!! I mean seriously, to be able to ride long distances and not feel that pressure in that tender area is heavenly! The Stealth has a perfect cutout for a healthy flow which works extremely well for me. But having said that, remember that each and every one of us is built differently so one must invest time to investigate all there is about saddles. Hopefully you will find the correct saddle for you...

I don’t think you ever explain that the Fizik you call a “Cadillac” (which has not been the ne plus ultra of cars for about fifty years) is the Tempo Argo. The Argo is designed for endurance riding. The other, narrower Tempo is the Vento, which is designed for racing. I have never found measuring to the nose of the saddle useful when changing from one saddle to another, which is why Fizik’s marks on the underside make sense only when taking the same saddle off and on. Different saddles have such different configurations that the nose measurement is only helpful as a rough starting point. I find it far more helpful to measure to the rough sit bone point - usually at the widest point of the saddle.

Short-nosed saddles were developed to comply with UCI regulations because the nose of the saddles couldn't be x cm infront of the BB. Shorter nose means the saddle can be slid forward while complying with the regulations.
@helicart
@helicart 3 жыл бұрын
Yep. and riders like to sit further forward relative to the bottom bracket, when climbing, and when going more aero in the drops. A shorter saddle allows one to keep the ischiopubic rami better supported on the wider rear part of the saddle.

Traditionally the wider nose is so that you can be in an aero position, while scooting up on the saddle and having more material for support. If that is not for you, Prologo makes the narrower nose of the snub nose line up. Good luck on your search!

Dr. Steven Schrader from NIOSH: “When you sit on a bike the pressure on the perineum increases sevenfold. Riders using a classic saddle place 1/4 of their body weight on the perineum. The amount of oxygen reaching the *** typically falls 70% to 80% in 3 minutes. A guy can have his oxygen levels drop 100% but he doesn’t know it. After half an hour he goes numb. Saddles with splits or holes may make matters worse because they have smaller surface areas, and hence the rider’s weight presses harder on less saddle. The arteries in the perineum run laterally and therefore they come under more pressure when they come into contact with the cutouts’ edges. It is no longer a question of whether or not traditional bike saddles causes ED, but what are you going to do about it?” Your own history confirms that you are not designed to sit on something resembling a 2 x 4 up on edge. The damage is by accumulation. So one day all the symptoms will present themselves but by that time significant damage is done. People 'trash' me for adding these comments but I have sold 42,000 seats and have talked directly to at least 6000 people and have heard every urological condition here is as caused by saddles. The common factor: they all trusted people like this and used saddles EXACTLY like these: the same old same old. Stop the damage and use a Spongy Wonder

Hi, thank you! Your video is the only one on yt showing different saddle brands in the same video, this is very helpful for me! I have 115mm sit bones and im currently using a fizik antares 142mm wide (i already ride like 15000 km on this one) but when i ride a lot (like 6 days a week) i have some pain in the area between sit bones and testicles, i mean the perineum area is the only one that hurts a lot after long rides. (i tend to have most of the times an aggressive position, holding the hand down on the bar). Now i wondering which new saddle could i try, but i can't decide between slr boost superflow (130mm) or specialized power (130mm) or maybe an arione (?) . Any suggestion? And if you're wondering, i've already been to an expert biomechanics that helped me with bike position, i think the problem is saddle related..

Saddles ought to fit like a shoe, yet no honest size info is given. Any saddle is recommended for 3 to 5 body sizes. Almost all commercial saddles are too wide for me, at the location of abductor muscles, next ramus of ischias. That is the transition of wing to nose. I had to cut off 5mm from saddles, on each side, frontal edge of wing and transition to nose. Even super t-shaped leather saddles were too wide around the nose. Most plastic saddles are much more v-shaped, even wider in that area. Despite saddles being only 130mm but total width is not a relevant piece of information. Each saddle has a shape that will arrest the ramus and ischias. It will be deep and horizontal. May be hidden under cushion. At this location, the saddle must be narrow enough. I haven't tried the selle italia friction free monorail model, but i speculate that it would be good for me. I cannot name another model that might work out of the box. The regular flite still appears too wide. 164cm rider. Imho saddles should be officially recommended for a male and a different female body height. But imho they are unofficially all for either about 175cm (SM) and about 185cm (ML). It seems to me that most saddles are of tolerable comfort, if only the size is right or they are trimmed to size. They are optimized for different pelvis rotations tho. I go hands free most of the time, on a cruiser/klunker bike. Ideally my sitbones need a slight cavity, broken in cushion, to allow for maximum control, as you do not want to steer with the legs, when you ride hands free.

It went together easily in less than an hour. kzbin.infoUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.

Very helpful video! Thank you. But, I have a couple questions now. I have a 10 yr old Selle Italia SLR. I bought it for the huge cut-out, hoping it would help with the perennial pain on my 40 mile rides. But, it never helped. I just keep standing to relieve the pain. Is the new version much better? Or, (for an endurance rider) is the ability to move around in a Fizik saddle a much greater benefit compared to just having a giant cutout on a race saddle?
@Veloworthy
@Veloworthy 3 жыл бұрын
Cutout is only part of the equation. While it does help, it's not everything. Sound like you could benefit from a saddle with different material (10 years is a long life for a saddle).
