Anyone with a keen eye will notice the lack of insulation the bricklayer has installed behind the lintel. This is something that I continually mention but nothing ever seems to change, it's not just one bricklayer either, it seems to be nearly everyone that I encounter 😂 I've decided that I'll now be adding this to my job description of things that I do for other trades including but not limited to... Capping and clipping cables. Foaming door casings. Remove wallpaper in awkward areas. Fitting earth sleeving. Caulking skirting. Chasing in deeper for pipes, and clipping them properly. Cleaning snots off brickwork and fitting cavity closers. And brushing up / cleaning and tidying before i start my work 😅😅

@@dankennedyy Building is difficult like that because lifespans are long, and parts are interacting with temperature/pressure/organic components. Almost all the newest hot stuff turns out to be a bit of a disaster a decade later. Foam was all the rage in the 90's, and I'm spending far too much time ripping it out wherever I go. It is great for the first years, but becomes completely brittle with time - not even thinking about the deadly quantities of toxic smoke the stuff generates in a fire (try insuring houses with spray foam insulation these days!). There's just no perfect solution to everything - but I've gone from a foam lover to somebody who would rather pick the right materials for specific jobs rather than a generic solution which is only just good enough for a short period of time.

Kirk, I like to think I'm an 'Advanced' DIYer. When filling wall chases I use dab or browning as a bulk filler then top it off with Gyproc Easyfill. I know EF isn't gypsum based and not as hard (it seems to be predominantly chalk?) HOWEVER, it is a dream to sand back to a feather edge so does not need your level of skill. Besides the price what are the downside of Easyfill? Do you ever use it? Maybe good item for a future video.
