I am a Texan that has lived in Scotland for 20 years, so you know I come from a dry & warm climate and using mud, tape and bed- good old sheet rock. I started watching you after needing to tackle a house of plaster needing done. I have learned enough from you and paying a plasterer to come do a room and let me help to get a handle on this pva, skim, plaster, plasterboard and all this nonsense. Having completed 7 rooms and feeling comfortable with plaster, I am still beside myself thinking anyone works outside here reliably. I'm gutted for you. The biggest thing I have learned here is to hire others to do outside work. 4 seasons in 1 day and weather forecasters as useful as a nonalcohol pint, every venture outside comes with a high chance of backfire. Good on you for gettin on with it and for sharing with us and your son.

I built 2 engineering brick piers. The mortar was perfect The brick courses alternate colours red & blue. Inside the building the piers were to be exposed. A feature in the kitchen. The courses perfect, perps all aligned. Corners crisp & plumb. Then we left the site. It was our own house. We sat at home, looking forward to next weekend to put the beam in. The heavens opened up. In our haste to leave, the tarps were forgotten. I was so sure we covered our lovely work. Blistered courses, perforated pointing, stained facework. Streams of water piercing through the piers from the top. We elected to clean & re point. Left the brickwork as it was. It still looks stunning. The character for us suited the moment. Representing a simple oversight. We love our piers. A bit shite but nature is so unpredictable. & in perspective. It does not really matter. I feel you. I really do. Thanks for the video. Always honest. Like a good craftsperson should be. Terry.

Kirk same thing happened to us on a big 3 level high wall . We were just finishing scratch coat when the rain started pouring , we just sat in the garage watching how the stucco came off the wall . I still remember the sound 😢 it was like cows taking a shait , it was upsetting because of all the hard work 😓 but it happens to everyone unfortunately.

Nice one Kirk, about 15 years ago I was rendering the back wall of 8 garages, so it was a long straight wall, no rain forecasted, by 1 o clock it was all done and I looked up in the sky and saw black clouds coming our way, I said to my helper who is also my nephew, GET THE SHEETS OUT THE VAN IT@S GOING TO HAMMER IT DOWN, he calmly said it will be fine it's not coming this way, half an hour later the whole lot was on the deck, it hammered it down with rain, thunder and lighting, anyway half an hour later the sun was back out, so we put it back in the mixer and redone the wall, luckily it was just a brush finish to the wall, iv had a few close ones over the last 48 years of plastering. Keep up the good work Kirk 👍 oh, it was white cement as well

Nowa days i just keep calm and carry on, knowing full well life is ups and downs and at the end of the day these things going wrong are absolutely minor compared to other things people deal with in life! Ive had a couple of jobs go wrong myself, but like you i never give up! If you dont give up you’ll always get to the finish line and the finished job will be as it should be

Nice and honest Kirk and completely the right attitude to have 👍 I have lost count of the times it’s happened, the worst was in the 80’s when we had waterproofer in the base coats so we could get the whole house top coated in a day with a gang or worst still was when we were rough casting or wet dashing !! It only needed to be foggy and it slid off lol All sent to test us son ✌️I can also see so many old school traits in your spreading, from your dad and his teacher and that’s pretty cool and takes me back to my elder family members were still spreading.

The water board, builder, planing inspector. Were arguing over the drawings. Because of a mistake. And that was fixed , we ended up having a 3 meter by 2.5 2.8 meter meter lake out side the back door Because of rain like you had . Anyway it was sorted the rain was no more and we finally finished. 😅😅 your top life coach your videos are like a breath of fresh air sound work ethics I just love trader's people who love life and are at the top of their game. cheers from sunny Wales 😅 🍻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

The coat that you lost. In Canada, we call it a scatch coat. Second coat brown and third is finish. In some older homes, your third coat is a dash coat. Old-school way of doing the dash coat is with a dash brush. You can get a sprayer for dashing now, though. I do way more interior work, though. The trades are separate here. You have the stucco trade. And the taping/plaster trade. Every tradesman has made mistakes. Sometimes after we have been at it awhike we forget. We weren't out of the whomb being a professional, and a lot of mistakes were made to get here. Especially when working with wet. materials. Cheers from Canada.
