One trick I use is to copy the coordinates and paste into google earth. Then I can use the street view feature to get a look of the area from the closest paved roads

Excellent video. I am getting onX for Oregon as well. I was worried I wouldn't be able to use it on my phone because where I hunt there is no cell service.
@TheBeginningHunter5 жыл бұрын
mhoward29 thanks for the feedback. That was one of the most common concerns from hunters about onX was their fear of not being able to use it offline. But, it is super easy to save maps to be used offline and I was able to save entire hunting units this year during my Antelope and Mule Deer hunts. It truely was a game changer!
@TheBeginningHunter5 жыл бұрын
Wanted to touch base with you and let you know I uploaded a new video specifically for using onX without cell service. Take a look!

New user to the onX app, pretty amazing. Using my iPad, I’ve gone thru the exercise in setting up way points and such. Saved map to offgrid with 10mi. Medium resolution ……… can’t seem to figure out how to transfer to iPhone ???
@TheBeginningHunter4 жыл бұрын
D-Reg Don great question! When you saved it with your iPad you saved it to just that iPad. What you need to do is go onto your iPhone and save the maps to that since the iPhone will be what you will be using in the field.

im watching this and tring to learn for texas but my government land color and public land color seem to be different. if you have all 50 states would you mind seeing what im talking about? maybe the $99.00 version has some features that the $30.00 doesn't?
@2010frankieg5 жыл бұрын
I just don't to think I know how to use this and end up in trouble. if you have time cool and thank you. if not, im just gonna call it quits lol for awhile
@TheBeginningHunter5 жыл бұрын
No worries at all! Your land colors may look different than mine and many states do. What you can look for is when you click on the parcel of land it will say if it is public or private land right at the top. Each state has different “public organizations” that manage land and Texas is no different. If you’re in doubt on if a parcel of land can be hunted you can call the department that manages it by finding their number online and ask them. Just be sure to reference what land specifically your looking to hunt. Does that answer your question? I can reach out to onX and ask for clarification if needed!
@2010frankieg5 жыл бұрын
that's great advice thank you!! I needed the input from someone like you who already uses the app for hunts. im so thankful you went out and made these videos. thank you again I will prep hunts with phone calls. @@TheBeginningHunter

when I add stuff from the field it shows up on my pc when i get home except my tracking how can i get this to up date while i am in the field so my wife can see my progress from home
@TheBeginningHunter4 жыл бұрын
laurence petz she may need to refresh or log in again after your hunts have tracked. Are you using off grid maps when your tracking or are you still in cell service? It should be a fairly immediate update to your pc. I love the idea of her staying up to date on where you are!
@laurencepetz3654 жыл бұрын
@@TheBeginningHunter Almost always on off grid map. service is very spotty or non- existent where we hunt here in Idaho. I can't even get the tracking to show on the pc after i am home.
@TheBeginningHunter4 жыл бұрын
laurence petz well it makes sense that she wouldn’t be able to keep track of you real time when your phone is out of service due to where you are hunting and having to use off grid maps. However, when you come back into service and have internet connection your tracking and waypoint data should sync up with your pc at home to allow her to see where you are. Unit 4 sounds like just the place that I like to hunt!

How does it track you if you have no service for GPS
@TheBeginningHunter3 жыл бұрын
Great question. It’s the same way that when you are traveling with your phone as your GPS in the car it can still track where on the road you are. Essentially what happens is that it saves a copy of a map and you can still track your exact location via GPS on it.

Hello I really like yous videos. And I have a couple question: What color of areas is good for hunt Rabbits? an what BLM means? Can I Hunt in areas with BLM Letters?
@TheBeginningHunter5 жыл бұрын
It depends on what state you are hunting and I am not sure what areas hold rabbits more than others. BLM stands for Bureau of Land Management and this can be toggled on in the app when you use the Public Land layer. Hope this helps!
@Laborman173 жыл бұрын
As an add on usually you can hunt BLM land as long as it’s not posted. I’m in California where there’s more rules then hunters lol. But I hunt mostly BLM and wilderness zones

Where is your favorite place to hunt in Oregon?
@TheBeginningHunter5 жыл бұрын
Ashley Jones depends on what species I suppose. I love hunting mule deer and elk in the northeast part of Oregon, blacktail deer by the coast, and antelope down in southern Oregon. Lots of hunts, not enough time!

Jd Alley that’s the best part! Anything that you do on the computer is automatically going to transfer over to your phone, and vice versa. I’ve added a ton of stuff to my onX when in the field and it shows up when I get home and hop onto the computer. Thanks for the question and for following along!

IMO you spend way too much time downloading offline maps because if you don't have good cell service the app is pretty worthless! Better know where you are and you have to download all your maps and save them ahead of time.
@TheBeginningHunter4 жыл бұрын
Paul S I always know the unit that I will be hunting and save maps for the area. Saving larger maps will allow you to keep lower quality maps but the maps will cover a larger area. Spend the 10 minutes before a hunt to download some maps using WiFi and you’ll be set. Good luck this season!

Lol you think you're gonna use the quads God gave you.. but it's Washington and quads /motorized vehicles aren't permitted on the trails. And all the access roads have been locked shut by decree of king Inslee the terrible. So you'll leave your god given quad at the truck and both your truck and quad will be stolen while you're hunting. Just another level of anxiety and spice added to your hunting trip.
