Thank you for the video, Lee. Very informative & easy to follow. I'm running into an issue (printing to a window cling) where I'm trying to fill an image area, however, it isn't fully picking the entire graphic. There's no transparency in Photoshop & all images surrounding it seem to be fine, as well.
@LeeManevitch2 ай бұрын
Fill Image Area will not work properly if there's any sections that are filled "white" - that is, no color. You'll need to find another strategy for adding white in those cases.

@@LeeManevitch Ah, understood. So replacing the white with a different color or gradient should be a fix. Thank you.

Perhaps. If not, and you're ok with it, please feel free to send me the file at KZbin@manevitch.com with a detailed description of exactly what you're trying to do, and I'll take a look at it. If there are linked files in your artwork I'll need those, too.

@@LeeManevitch I managed to just slightly decrease the level of white to a hair darker (almost unnoticeable) & that seemed to do the trick. Thanks, so much, for the help!

Is there a way to create a white ink gradient under an image that already has a gradient fading to 0% Opacity?
@LeeManevitch2 ай бұрын
Design of white always goes over, regardless of print process. Make it overprint, and set both gradient endpoints to be tints of white rather than using transparency effects. So for instance 0% - 100% for the full gradient.

I do everything I should and it starts the second print file ripping then i get an error and it stops. I dont know why

What's the error? What steps are you taking? Sounds to me like a candidate for Onyx support, but if you give me more information maybe I can help you troubleshoot. youtube@manevitch.com if you want to send me your art files and a detailed description of what you're doing that generates that error.

Hi Lee, thanks for the video! I found it (and many other of your videos) very helpful. Is it possible to create a sandwich mode for the R-series using Onyx instead of doing it at the printer? I'd really like to create Quick Sets (and, subsequently, hot folders) for all of my print modes, but I can't do that if I'm applying settings directly at the printer. I have a 700 and an R2000. Could you make a video showing how to create the Quick Sets for white-printing? Especially for the R-series, since setting that up in Onyx wasn't really talked about much in this video. Thanks!
@LeeManevitch2 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for the kind words. Setting up Sandwich directly in Onyx does not work for the R-Series because of how the internal workings of that printer's computer system operates. I do need to set it up onboard the printer's IPS to get sandwich mode to work. I can definitely add Quick Set creation to my video schedule, but be aware that Onyx has an extensive collection of Quick Sets specifically for the R-Series and the 700/800 already. it might be worth taking a look on Onyx's website to see if you can get a head start, because travel has REALLY picked up for me and so my video schedule has taken a major hit as a result!

@@LeeManevitch Ah! Ok that makes sense. No rush on the quick set creation videos! I know how to make most of the quick sets. I'm just trying to figure out how to set up white-printing quick sets now. Sounds like for the R2000, I won't be able to do everything in quick sets, so that answers that!

Hello Lee, greetings from DPI Direct in San Diego. Do you know if there is a way to change the spot color name that Onyx is using? We have another printer that prints white using a fiery rip and it looks for a different spot color name for its white ink setting. Therefore we have to prep accordingly to the device we're using. It would be nice if we can set them both to look for the same spot color name. Thanks!

I don't think it's possible to change the named color from Spot1 to something else - it appears to be hard-coded. However, you *CAN* make the change on-the-fly by opening the file in Job Editor and going to the Color Correction tab. Once there click the "Tools>>" button and choose "Named Color Replacements." Click the Insert button, and you can change "Spot_White" or whatever to print as 100% white in that dialog box. If this is going to be an ongoing process you probably will want to save that adjustment as a filter. At the top of the Color Correction dialog there's a "Filter..." button. Click it, then click the "Manager..." button. From there you can export the adjustment you just made, and then create a new Quick Set that uses that filter every time. (Quick Sets is on my to-do list because of how easy they make everyday adjustments) If you go the filter route be aware that any adjustment you made will be included. So to be safe make sure that the only thing you've done inside the Job Editor is to make that one color replacement.

Omg… how do you underflood specific areas like the one image you’ve used in other video with the surfer under water. Ive been trying to print a job with white behind all other colors except black, and I’m having no luck. It’ll either underflood all, or print the white over flood, in underfloor settings. SMH. So confused.

If you want *selective* white then by far the easiest way to do it is in your design software...not in the RIP. Reach out to me at youtube@manevitch.com and I can show you how your particular file needs to be manipulated.

Hello, first of all thank you very much for the tutorial, I have a doubt regarding the example that you put of a portrait image with the eyes, if I want the white of the eyes to be printed and then a whole layer behind white, how would I do it, creating a spot eye whites selection layer and then tell it to be over and inverse?

My pleasure - I love making these videos and it's satisfying to know that people are learning from watching them. However, I'm afraid I don't quite understand what it is you're trying to accomplish. Do you want to print white ink only where the eyes are and leave everything else as just CMYK with no white? If so then you'll need to add white in your design file - Photoshop or Illustrator, for example - and not just automatically generate the white data in the RIP. If you're trying to do something else then please explain a little (or link to a photo maybe?) and I'll see what I can do to help you.

@@LeeManevitch this sounds like my issue. I’m printing on clear stickers. And I need white to print under specific colors, including pure white areas. I can’t get my r1000 to do it, even with the Spot1 white(overprint) behind the specific areas I need.
