I enjoy that you run what you like. Your OO in the shed is looking great! I've always looked at model trains as toys and nothing more (expensive toys at times). I too like to just run whatever I like, and I collect what strikes my fancy. My daughter and I will be working on an outdoor G-scale model railroad in our back yard at some point in the next 12 months. Thanks for reminding us how much fun model trains can be. I've loved real and model trains since I was a little boy, and I just like having fun with them.🙂

Too many people forget it's all just toy trains however much you spend , and it should just be fun, love the idea of the garden railway. Have fun and thanks for commenting

I like the concept of modeling a single area in a layout versus trying to cram in different scenes and not doing them justice.

Great update on the shed layout. It’s always a good feeling when you de clutter as you have room for more scenery. Looking forward to seeing what you do next for the shed layout.

Nice to see the shed layout running video. Like you, I just build and see what looks right and works. Above the N gauge layout you could fill that area filled scenically also got room to fit slide out bench there aswell.

I have an idea now for what I may label as the AFR / American Fantasy Railroad. Except for my tank cars I favor 40 foot rolling stock in order to get 1 more wagon on a siding. I’m also not particularly era specific - I don’t have any coal locos with a tender and 1 caboose that I don’t usually run on the layout. I still construct 3-point shunting layouts to solve the lack of space problem.

Well, I must say I wholly agree in terms of simplifying the theme. I have always liked simple countryside with cuttings, embankments, fences, trees and the odd sheep 🐑 I think it was brought on by my early years by the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway 😎 And of course, you can always change your mind later…you have done that once or twice before 😅 I must say that wee saddle tank is a cracker! Powerful as you like! And I do have a soft spot for J15s too! 🤓 Nice to hear you preaching the virtues the gospel of Rule 1 again ☺️ Cheers mate, have a great weekend 👍🍻🍀

Great to see the OO layout back in action. Like you I run what I like - I often have a Spanish Talgo train overtaking a class 56 on a coal train for example. For me each train is one bubble of nostalgia drifting past another. Looking forward to seeing the result of Doug's electrickery on the fiddle yard.

It’s all a Fiction - Fact! 😜😆 - it’s gr8 to have seen all your layouts come and go, then watch this one evolve into its present persona - I was biggin-up BMR, to someone the other day & what an inspiration your channel has been to me, and how their is always something relatable to see within the parameters of the channel title - many Peeps have Big ideas above their Station 😜

Hey Mike & Doug it all look's wonderful and i am glad you had a sort out in the shed! I am with you on the run what you like with what you like.I think to many people get sucked into you are not allowed to run this with that mentality It really just boils down to just have fun and enjoy watching trains running.

I agree totally, i never pay more than £50 pounds for a loco ,usually less and paint them in my fictional railway colours. Just a small 8x4 two oval layout but it's just what I like, watching trains running at 73 I also run what I like and watching these videos has been a great source of help, ideas and entertainment keep up the good work lads.

Lovely to see the 00 layout again. That J15 looks fabulous. I would love to see two crossovers on the long straight through the main station. Trains could swap over between those 2 loops. Loads more operational fun!

Hi Mike. Layout's looking good. For those who say they can't purchase their favourite loco because it doesn't fit in with the era of their layout, I say call your layout a heritage one then you can run what you like. SIMPLES! Looking forward to your next upload. Paul. 👍❤

@@BudgetModelRailways In that case, he could always say that the original body was found in an old outbuilding going to rust and ruin and was recovered and reconstructed/restored to its former self. There's always some kind of story you can contrive if you put your mind to it. Quite a few old locos and rolling stock have been discovered in recent times that belonged to a deceased former owner and were brought back to life. Indeed, there are a couple of channels on KZbin whose authors spend their time seeking out these locos and they definitely exist so this guy you spoke to just needs to use his imagination. More fool him if he wants to deny himself the pleasure of seeing a favourite loco of his trundling around his layout! 🤘

You've essentially got 3 different 'layouts' in that big shed layout. Re space for a model railway, my wife and I live in a 6x3 metre 'tiny home' space, and I've managed 4 different micro or small layouts in that space. 3 are ho/oo shunting layouts, 1 is an n scale kato oval with sidings. But I've had a lot of practice building micro & small layouts, so I find it fairly easy to make layout that fits available space

I've always agreed with the idea of a rule 1 layout, it's mine and I'll run what I like with whatever I fancy. As for keeping the layout homogeneous I quite agree with you - bits and pieces of this and that stck here, there and everywhere just looks messy - keep to a theme. Still haven't got around to starting my layout yet but luckily I have have a choice of two decent sized rooms, just full of stuff however 😋. I've already got far more locos and rolling stock than I'll ever be able to run, but it's nice to have a choice! Sometimes they may all match, other times oh what the hell, just enjoy it.

Nice work getting into the shed and back to the OO layout. I tend to agree with your philosophy on both counts. What track plan? The layout develops as I go. And... If you like it, run it. 👍 Same as on my channel. Progress is looking good. As I'm working on my layouts I often have to wait for a train too. 😅 Happy Modelling. Mon from Monsville Railways

It's always satisfying to move some 'stuff' round and get trains running! I'd be interested in hearing more from Doug on how the sidings will be wired up, if he wouldn't mind ... I've been experimenting with Arduino / Pi Pico boards (and relays) to do something similar, so that the board does the starting and stopping as well (using cardboard baseboards copied from your earlier videos! ) 4 tracks should be a nice place to experiment :) Mike.

Everytime I see your layout I love the fact you have managed to make the Hornby 0-4-0 locomotives look great on the layout. I prefer running the more branchline types of loco and industrial locomotives and recently found a matching partner D class 0-4-0 to my first Hornby loco I ever had Queen Mary, that partner loco is King George. I would love to run the larger locomotives I have but that might be a future project of a outdoor layout where there is plenty of space for express running.

For what it's worth, I've seen other people on KZbin who make a point of running trains while working on their layouts so that they'll know right away if something they've done messes up their wiring or track connectivity. Sometimes it makes me break out in nervous hives, but I see their point lol

Agreed on the do-what-you-want approach. For my mystery novels, I have invented a station, railways lines and a whole 9000 inhabitants town in the Yorkshire Dales to match the station. And, honestly, I don't care about reproducing any kind of prototype station for my layout. I have room for my layout, the one I where I can put some flat planks in my tiny apartment, and I do my station around this idea of running what I like in a small mobile layout. I take inspiration from reality, not exact blueprints.

what I noticed is when you make scale down models, you need to pay attention of scaling down the kinematics as well. I feel trains are moving too fast compared to their scale. Is that 1:48 scale train layout ? tracks are broad gauge or narrow gauge ? Anyway very nice work.
