I've just bought one of these, which I think had only been used once or twice. It had certainly never seen a bottle of oil; the original lubricant had dried up and turned into a fine white dust. After a good clean, service (including new brushes, springs and traction tyres) and a good oiling, it is so quiet I walked out the room and forgot I left it running! Probably the questest, smoothest loco I now own, all for about £26. Great video Bill!

It's a nice looking model good to see it all come together and run. Nothing wrong with benefiting from your work. When I retired and became a pensioner, it dawned on me that I AM the charity! 😄

Very nice mode, the motor noise I have found sometimes is due to the brush sticking in the commutator slot gap. The segments are sometimes differing in height at each slot. I had two locos the other day both with the same thing, they would stick in forward and be perfect in reverse. The segments angled so that when it rotated for forward, the brush caught the 0.2 or so mm there. I removed the gear and put the armature in the drill and pressed a small rubber toy car wheel firmly on it and it pressed the segments to even ‘heights’. They both now run very smoothly (one is practically silent). Seems like a fault that makes itself worse the more you run it the noisy way. Hope you’re well and kind regards Will

Not a bad detailed King Class for its time! And another noise issue solved. I for one would never have thought of a loose magnet causing it to make that noise! More knowledge from watching your videos... !

Bill, I wanted to thank you for giving me inspiration to try and fix one of my own models, a Triang Hornby Jinty 3F which did run then slowly stopped after a while. I bought a new motor and brushes and used your video on the 3F to give me some idea on what to do and the whole process was an absolute success! Thank you again!

The magnet issue was well tippled, and the repair was spot on Bill, runs as sweet as. I think your right to keep the majority of the sale, as you said a new layout can eat up your funds quite quickly, many of us have been down that road before. We can sympathise with that. Nice video again. I must comment that my heart misses a beat when you run the locos on your oval. There’s on barriers on the edge of the table, especially on the turns. Rgds from Down Under

I had a tender driven Tyco 2-8-0 with their PowerTorque drive. Hornby’s mechanism looks much, much better.

Still think I can hear a motor whine at the end there Bill? I always thought it was a shame Hornby put that horrible plastic cross pin assembly on the side motion of their tender drive steam models - otherwise they were nice looking for their time.

I've had problems with a similar model, where the motor itself runs fine directly connected to a battery but when it's relying on the drawbar I get stuttering. Is it due to poor lubrication on the axles ?
