Bud Palmer was definitely a professional. First time I heard him was very recently while watching old NASCAR clips. He sounded like he was getting ready to commentate a fight between Fireball Roberts and Coo Coo Marlin after they drove 500 miles. Fast forward here and he sounds like a gentleman trying to court some local Italian lady.

Fantastic video, thank you so much for presenting the full race version. Stirling Moss was just superb in this race. In order to reduce the car and his body from overheating Moss removed the side panels before the race: you can see his legs quite clearly through the side of his car has goes around the hairpin @ 33:00! Just imagine someone trying that nowadays, LOL!

What a gold mine of interesting content. I looked for the producer of this program "First National Television" and believe it was located in Kansas City, Missouri. "Bud" Palmer was a basketball player and sports commentator. I would love to find out more about this interesting televised sports broadcast. Did a group of broadcast students from Kansas City travel to Monaco to film the event?

Pure gold. For racing fans, Moss commentary at end is like Stonewall Jackson explaining Chancellorsville tactics to Civil War buffs. (Sort of...) Masten Gregory, Phil Hill; Louis Chiron's daintily imperious grid orchestration. If you haven't read Robert Daley's "The Cruel Sport", please do. Complements and expands "The Limit"'s dramatic perspective on early 1.5 litre era--with superb photographs. Thank you, Carlos !! Your OodnuM series is wonderful.

I was 12 and my hero was Phil Hill. Had to wait till sports car magazines came out months after the race to find out the results in rural America.

First Porsche f1 car cited and explained here. Thats what narrator says. Porsche was part of the Auto Union union in 32’ and Fernidad Porsche designed the first rear engined supercharged vehicles at that time. Hence the statement deserves an asterick lol

Carlo Chiti, not Enzo

@@DL-ls5sy dafuq you talking about, bro? Carlo Chiti was morbidly obese. The dude in sunglasses at 10:41 is clearly Enzo. Here is Carlo Chiti circa 1960: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlo_Chiti#/media/File:Puliga-Busso-Luragho-Chiti.jpg

Should the emphasis be on the first or the last syllable of "Monaco?" Is it MON-a-co or Mon-a-CO?
@DL-ls5sy4 жыл бұрын
Last syllabe...in french, it's always like this

WELL THEN doesnt MASTEN GREGORY think HIGHLY of HIMSELF at 14:11 here! First time ive ever heard him talk and, while i understand his point, he should just be grateful to be there. Having said that, what a story he was, living proof thatnif you pushed hard enough you could make it happen back then.
