He is NOT a bass! He's a baritone, and it can be heard quite well on the high notes (an Avi or Tim would sound like you stepped on a toe of a little baby), and his deep notes as well, as they sound a little bit unnatural, as he has to create notes with special techiques, notes that Avi and the others can sing efortlessly on their natural chest voice due to their given range. That is of course not a criticism, it's just the opposite, since he had to work harder to sing that deep.

@gidster192 2 жыл бұрын
@@benceschmidt2567 even though Geoff can hit higher notes really well, he can still go just as low as Tim and Avi with chest. The 3 of them can all go down to an F#1 in chest, with Geoff even being able to dip a bit below that. Geoff mainly uses subharmonic techniques when he needs to reach notes that are F#1 or lower, but there are many songs where he hits F#1’s in chest, and he even said himself that his range overlaps a bit so sometimes he’ll use either subs or chest around that range. Though he does have a great high range, he can still be classified as both a bass and baritone, as he’s able to sing lower (in chest) than 99% of other regular basses.

I'm not any expert on this, but not sure that Geoff's a typical bass. Seen a few discussions on that note and and also heard him talking that he's originally singed more in the baritone range and bass singing came later. But that doesn't change the fact he's incredibly skilled and his range is just insane. Whenever I hear him, it's just pure enjoyement :)

the sequence that Geoff sings at 2:36 is one of the most Impressive things I’ve ever heard. In just 10 seconds, Geoff goes from a high E, or an E4 in chest, clearly just letting a belt out there all the down to an E1 subharmonic. Geoff is just crazy talented and the range is insane.

I don't think Geoff gets enough appreciation for his voice. His vocal range is PHENOMANAL. Like, come on dude. How does your voice has sucha large range? I adore it so much. I could be wrong, but i've read *and* heard his voice reach the lowest subnotic vocal possible AND reach the highest vocal possible. Geoff's range is absolutely stunning and he has a gorgeous voice. While he is the bass of the group, I wish he did more singing with his middle range voice.

I was impressed by his solo on the Queen medley because of the range there (Eb5 in mix to subharmonic Bb1)... but this is next level. Geoff is a freak of nature.

Until you give birth to three sons who all have super low voices, then things get weird. My oldest is a bass, the younger two are baritones, but they are only 13 and 15. 🤦‍♀️ The 15 yo has latched onto Geoff and is currently spending about three hours a day working on his low notes and growl. Uh....would not surprise me if he ends up a great bass. Nothing more disconcerting that a 15yo growling a note so low that the dog runs in fear.

I'm sorry I just discovered this last weekend and have watched it everyday 2-3 times a day since. The voices! The theatrics! All the guys looked like were having such fun and so good. Geoff! Oh man, those notes! The range, the smooth as butter voice. Thank you all for your talent.

I think Geoff just broke every record in the book. Actually, no, Geoff just wrote the book. I just showed this to my friend and he just goes, "So he's literally the best singer ever." High chest, subharmonics, low chest....wow. This is what a-cappella can and should be.

@@kellibee1008 Depends who you ask. There are a few youtubers who put together vocal range videos. By some counts, he has almost 5 octaves. I'd say 4 and a half for sure and 5 if you include the lowest of his growl notes.
