About 1971 I was a kid that had a love of model railways and I bought a used track set from a school friend . My dad saw my interest and took me to visit Beaties in Sheffield and said that I could choose any one locomotive . All the famous names of the steam era where there for me to choose my fancy . I came home with the GWR Pannier .... for some reason I have always loved that loco & still do .

I don't know if it has already been mentioned to you, but there was indeed at least one 0-4-0 Pannier Tank loco. GWR No.795 which later carried the name "Dorothy" It was smaller than what your model portrays and was an outside-cylinder 0-4-0.

Fantastic. Probably mentioned before but I chose to do a GWR rebuild of a M&SWJR L-class which is a 4-4-0 tender loco. I had a motorised tender chassis (Airfix 4F most likely) which met the dimension requirements near enough and going that way meant an FDM chassis for the front with brass bearings inserted was doable seeing as I don’t have the CNC machinery or even at that time a pillar drill for brass plate. I used donor Hornby wheels, coupling rods and bogie but otherwise was FDM. Everything was designed to be sympathetic to FDM, printing in resin you could certainly make some changes and break it down into fewer pieces than I had to, and I had to apply the rivet details afterwards as waterslides, which would also be easy with a resin printer. I was amazed when it all came together and worked. Modelling a safety valve bonnet on a taper boiler in fusion 360 was no mean feat! There’s a lot of software that couldn’t produce that shape! Anyway point of telling you this is you’d be more than welcome to have the CAD of you wanted to give it a go and improve it with a metal and motorised main chassis and help with the bulk of the dimensions having already been reproduced digitally.

Not gonna lie, that baby pannier looks VERY cursed... but EXTREMELY adorable at the same time, I love it! XD Btw, this may seem very silly... Looking very good. As a suggestion for future projects: printing parts at 45° is a a good compromise for artifacts on all faces; but there is a "golden angle" to print at where the surface at that angle will have almost imperceptible layer lines, since the layers don't skip any pixels when going up to the next layer. On my Photon it's 46.62° for a 50 micron layer height, but it will vary based on the pixel width of your screen and the layer height. Other surfaces will have imperfections, but it's good if one surface matters more than others. I'd love to do a similar project in N scale, but I lack the CNC machine and CAD skills to realise such a project.

Fascinating! but totally beyond me as I just cut metal and solder and use a hand rivetter. As to those fold-up gear boxes...The gears never mesh right. For some reason the armature shaft hunts and the loco runs hesitantly in one direction, though better in another and I've been trying these gearboxes since the 1960s . I prefer buying a worm and gear set and making the frame myself.
