Try one of these solutions: 1. Drag layer to the top 2. Click right on layer and choose zoom to layer. If you see the layer, but not the world map, then the projection of your layer is wrong.

@@megan2484 That's also what I understood from your question. If you see the world map, but not your polygon layer, either the map is covering the layer (move it up and/or toggle on by checking the box) or it's in the wrong projection (check by clicking right and choose "zoom to layer"). Also check the attribute table if the polygon has data. Maybe it's empty.

maybe you should try to set correctly layer CRS by clicking it name with right mouse button->Set CRS
