Oh Pete, I hate to see honey on the floor. We northeastern beeks do get a good break from the bees. They're just ramping up down south...I still have lots of wooden ware to work up. Thanks for sharing, Brice

That looks like a real mess! As a side note, you have a new competitor in the honey business. We were gifted some recently and I must say it's the best honey we have ever tasted. It's called Oliver's Honey. Don't know if you've heard of it or not but whomever it is they are a genius!

Hahahaha Yes, Oliver's Honey is top of the range stuff....the future of beekeeping!

I knocked over a bucket but it wasnt full like yours. I was able to salvage about 2 quarts. I put in jars and and labeled it "Floor Honey - Save for Mead." It was a good story to share with a friend while sharing a glass of mead! So thats an idea for using some of your "floor honey".

Recovered about 45lbs of "floor honey" to feed back to the girls!

I had the exact same thing happen, its as if it built up pressure when it crystalized Keep up the videos , i have used some of the manipulations of frames to good success! Thanks!

What a mess! I am always worried and waiting for that mess. What else can you do? I have my buckets of honey 3 high with plywood in between. Maybe try a spackle knife and scoop it up that way. Atleast $600 mess

Would be nice if you could just set a couple Bee colonies outside the door and let them clean it up for you. They are pros at cleaning up honey. Even though it has been cold down here and I am tired of it, we have had a mild winter as well. February and March are always un predictable. The 27th here was beautiful lower 70's was able to do colony inspections and was pleased with what I found. Silver Maple just started blooming here and the bees are running with it. wild mustard is blooming as well and pollen has been coming in fairly heavy for a few weeks. Most colonies had honey stores, some nectar and starting to draw some wax. I had to add boxes to several of my colonies including Nucs. like you said building up for some splits. Looking forward to seeing you get into your colonies.

That would be nice but I would loose tensof thousands as they get trapped in the windows .....and the poop would be unimaginable!!!! LOL

Good to see you Peter. That spilled honey is a mess. I thought a gallon of spilled milk was bad.

Do not worry we will get a nasty cold snap when we least expect it or want it. Prepare for the worse and pray for the best.

I just bought a bee blanket heater and I just placed it on a bucket for the first time. How long do you leave them on?
@BeekeepingwithTheBeeWhisperer4 ай бұрын
Depends on the temp of the crystalized bucket and how long its been crystalized. Its usually soft enough to stir in 12 hrs and ready in 24 hrs if you stir it a few times. (if you don't you'll have a semi crystalized layer about 1" deep at the bottom.

I have a bee blanket but need to put reg. Heating pad under bottom of bucket to make it work. I've made a hot box from old refrigerator inkbird for temp control
@AmericansBee4 ай бұрын
@BucksBeesS.C. yeah, mine say on the blanket for 2 days, and it was perfect! I did place a blancket on top. Next time, I'm going to use some 2 inch insulation foam to make a warming box. Should make it go faster. I only had one extra 5g bucket to heat this year.

Couldn't you scoop up that honey in another container and feed it to the bees in the spring?
@BeekeepingwithTheBeeWhisperer4 ай бұрын
That is the updated plan!
@Robbie-Rob_Bees_Apiary4 ай бұрын
why do you prefer dark super boxes?
@BeekeepingwithTheBeeWhisperer4 ай бұрын
Here in Maine its cool relative to the range the bees thrive in A dark colored hive is active earlier in the day.....excess heat is rarely a problem here. Not the case further south.

Lost my 2 hives, Wis, had only 1 week of cold weather, were a 2 deep box , top boxs full of honey, seemed strong going into winter, had it insulated, not sure what to do about the frames now, 3 yrs old hives, kind of bummed, will need to order sometime soon i guess. Any suggestions on how to start over , a lot of missed info for you but need to start over, peeked in the hive yesterday, around 40
@BeekeepingwithTheBeeWhisperer4 ай бұрын
I can almost guarantee mites were the root cause,,,,review how you delt with them and revise you mite management techniques. The frames will be perfect for your new bees do not destroy!
