really appreciate the tutorial. I started first time as a GM and manager and got overwhelmed. Great tips, needed to know where to start besides looking to offload crappy contracts and load up on prospects. I've played football manager for years, excited to get into this.

Thanks for the videos, which are very helpful for a total noobie to OOTP and baseball. It’s easy to be overwhelmed by all the stats and acronyms at the start. I’ve played FM (Football Manager) for years, which is a similar style game and so engrossing every season, so I’m hoping the baseball bug takes hold as the OOTP fog starts to clear. I’d really appreciate a beginners guide to trading and drafts. I could do with improving my Arizona team, but am a little lost how to make it happen. The in-game tutorials left me a bit baffled, even after a couple of run throughs. Cheers mate!

Whoever made OOTP23 sure loves the Angels. They won 102 games in 2022 season, swept the Astros 3 games to none, the Red Sox 4 games to none, and beat the Dodgers in the World Series 4 games to 1.

I see they broke off Minor League Strategy from the combo off Promotion/demotions. You got Ass.Man on one and nicely let the Minor League Managers handle the strategy. This was all bundle into one in OOTP22 Setting that Lock on players should be easier and on a one place like looking at Transaction/Overview and directly there pick them. As I see it you have to click them in order then select Strategy to get to the Lock tick. Still on OOTP22 but think I remember one could do it easier in earlier versions. Think used that round marking spot to the left of POS then select Lock in some way. I might remember wrong, but from 22 it looks to be the long way for each and every player you like to Lock.

Without having the game in front of me I believe it's Right Click - > Transactions - > Lock Player.

@@garion333 Yes, I see it now. Long time used it so forgotten. But it's not called Lock Player. It's Disable AI Promo/Demo. Maybe that's why I missed it. Thanks

I’m new to OOTP. Been wanting to get it since 21, finally pulled the trigger. Idk if anyone here remembers Earl weaver baseball, in GM mode when you played instead of selecting your actions prior to the first pitch, u were given a pitch count and then you made your decision on what u wanted to do. Is there anyway to set a league up like that?

Awesome vids! Do you have tips on how you like to run your sims? Like do you go through and manage every game? Only late inning stuff? Or Sim a week + at a time w/o watching the "in-game" Sim?

I generally sim anywhere from a day to a week at a time. I play out and manage the postseason games.

Have you ever played Season Ticket baseball. I like it because you can create your own league and play franchise mode. I played and created a league with old teams ( Philadelphia A’s, Brooklyn Dodgers) and negro league teams. I started like, 1920 and moved from there with fiction players. Can you do this on this game. Thanks.

How do you put a value on established players? I'm always wary of trading for regulars in arbitration and/or one year deals because I have no clue how valuable MLB players are. I don't know the sport that well and I typically choose low budget teams like the A's or O's anyways. Just an example for the A's. They have a prospect catcher in Tyler Solderstrom. He has awful catcher ability at 35, terrible runner, and average at best batting potential. But he's a top prospect and gets good trade offers for guys like CF Cedric Mullins. I love Mullins and he's a great fielder and has good batting ratings and has put up good OPS+ and wRC+ stats. But he's on a $700K contract with arbitration for $7.3M the following year. Is it worth trading away a prospect for a guy in that contract situation? I had terrible experiences with arbitration in OOTP 22 and with a small market team it's hard to keep young guys long term. On the other hand I could trade him for Bryan Reynolds, who has already developed into a 80/80 star. He's already in a 2 year deal at $7M but his arbitration jumps to $22M in 2024. Is it even worth trading for these type of guys? I tried shopping Solderstrom around for other prospects and the options are more limited.

It really depends on the full picture of your roster. With small market teams, it's crucial to have a pipeline of young talent you can consistently filter in on cheap deals. That said, you likely can afford to pay a few players on more expensive deals. So, you'll have to decide who those guys are, and if that's Mullins etc. You could also try trading Soderstrom for prospects you value hi9gher, that way it doesn't increase tour current payroll.

How do I fire all the front office and coaching when starting a new custom league. I am redrafting the entirety of all teams, all levels, rosters? By the way, if I schedule a Free Agent Draft does that release both minor and major league players so all the hot prospects are available to a GM like myself who will be geared toward losing now, win later. Also, while drafting, is it best to keep a spreadsheet depth chart since none of the players are signed to contract to keep track of my needs as the process goes along?

Great tutorial! I've been wanting to purchase this game (ootp 23), however I have a Mac desktop and a Mac Air laptop and I'm not sure how good it will work. The requirements said something about openGL 3.0 and I have no idea what that means or if it's necessary. I'm also curious if you have to purchase a separate game for each system or a one time purchase to use on the desktop and the laptop. That being said, if you or someone reading this can answer these questions, I would greatly appreciate any advise I can get. Kudos to you, sgt mushroom and others for all the time and effort you put in, in order to understand and make sense of this massive game!

I've played on a Macbook air before and it worked fine. You can put the game on each machine, as you can use the product key on two devices. But it won't have the same saves on each machine unless you transfer them back and forth.

@@OOTPaddy Thanks, I was wondering if they would sync up. I suppose there is a setting somewhere that allows you to do that. Did you have to download openGL on your MacBook?

I don't believe such a setting exists. Not sure what openGL is, so don't think I used it!

Query regarding position ratings: For instance, Trent Grisham has 50/75 rating at left field and three colors, olive, yellow, blue. Weren't the older versions one rating and one color? What do the two different numbers and color mean please?

it's current and potential, like the ratings for contact, power etc.

@@OOTPaddy Thank you. One further question: Mike Yastrzemski for instance, is rated 30/70 at LF. This seems a wide range for an experienced player and hard to imagine he would develop from 30 to 70 at this stage of career, especially at OF. Is this more roll of the dice how he will play in a game at the position? From your tutorial know you don't put a lot of stock in position ratings. Wondering on the logic of this from OOTP or is it something they just haven't put much time into? Would appreciate your thoughts/input.

New look, new features. Still the same old crap! The game is pure garbage, and not worth the time and effort. I bought the game, expecting a change to how the AI manages things. Nothing changed, the AI still screws you over. I played the 1976 Cincinnati Reds, and their players play well under their statistics for that year. To make things worse the scab players I play against look like All-Stars against my team. The game is rigged and AI is still screwing me over. The game is not worth the $40 you pay for it.
