I’ve been in these places in Oregon. Not unusual. There are some beautiful places if a person just does some exploring. I was always hiking into areas that were hard to access and that is where the best discoveries were. I hiked all over the Mt. Jeff area as a kid. Grew up at the base of Rocky Top and hiked into areas I know none other had been. Access to the mountain is from Niagara where I grew up. 😊 Water wheel marks the beginning of the road off Hwy 22. I have not been where your crew went. I had no equipment either. 😊

I was motivated to move to Oregon just over 40 years ago as a 30yo. Had been lucky to have had parents that enjoyed adventures to/in the mountains and went on many vacations that took us from our flatland home in Eastern Kansas to the Colorado and Canadian Rockies, Tetons, Costa Rica and Guatemala and much more....and I thank them posthumously every day. My "discovery" of Oregon and its boundless natural wonders is ongoing even as a 71yo. I can no longer physically enjoy anything quite this rugged, but we have the WONDERFUL OREGON FIELD GUIDE to help us vicariously enjoy this awesome state. Thanks OPB, thanks to the crew members and THANK YOU MOTHER NATURE for providing this magnificent world of amazement. I count my blessings every single day when I smell that forest air that surrounds my now retirement home up in Prospect next to the Rogue River. I NEVER take it for granted that I am blessed with such surroundings. Just a marvelous (and to be quite frank...ballsy !) production, thanks again for sharing with us !

This is why I don't care to vacation elsewhere. Or live elsewhere! The PNW has beauty like this on every dang hillside, every little trickle of a stream. Everywhere there's a microcosm that matches Valhalla in beauty. How are we to protect it all from the global warming that's here? Enough gloom though. The exhilaration of this team was powerful. I can't do that, and even if I could, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't! But you all did, you filmed it (just for me, right?!🤗), and boy, do I respect and thank you for it. Much love.

Straight up! I'm very biased, Oregon is the best. Every climate except for a tropical rainforest. We have coastal rainforests, which I've spent my whole life exploring, along with the rest of the state. I love it here so very much! Life long Newporter/Coastie

When in college a friend and I would go bushwhacking in the Washington Cascades with the philosophy that you could only get so wet - so wading along rivers was how one frequently went. It was faster and usually safer than going through the devils club, deadfalls and slick moss covered boulders. Thanks for taking the time to make this video - I really enjoyed it . Be nice to repeat your journey but at 80 don't think I'll attempt it.

For those that don’t know, this video originally aired in 2016. Though the entire stretch is still there, the upper half of the canyon up to the main falls was part of the large wildfire in 2020.

That's tragic.. I always meant to look up the area to see if it was affected in that fire... Damn, it destroyed so much. But, it will come back even better than it was before. All of those nutrients got freed up for a rejuvenation. Like the area around Mount Saint Helens.
@xxCrazyEights88xx2 күн бұрын
@@DM-wp9vq I double checked the satellite photos provided by google, and the latest two show that the upriver portions were burned. Depending on when the fire went through, much of the canyon could've been spared, but its hard to tell. And about it coming back, it certainly will. The Silverton Fire of 1965 burned much of Silver Falls, and today its green and grown.

Why don't they slide, or spike down the logs? I loved repelling, but I've also climbed slick trees to tie off branches to fall trees, and it seems that going down a slick tree, would be as easy as going up.
