My dad was big time into Opels. I tinker with 80's/90's BMW's. He had an Opel GT in his younger days. Always liked the look of the Manta B, but the stock engine options were always too slow and super underwhelming

Very true. Mind you, the Mantra was always intended to be a European Mustang. The Manta being the far better car. I remember a cam swap used to work wonders.

drop a v8 3.5 litre .. 2.5 v6 .. or 3.0 straight 6 monza engine .. or the 2.0 dohc 16v calibra /astra engine easy .. all the vauxhall/opel engines mate to getrag gearboxes straight .or buy the gearbox conversion for the rover v8 .. problem solved very easy conversions . but yes 110 bhp gte steel block engine was lame and waste of time and resources to tune .

C for many years owning four mantas my first being a 1.8s berlinetta.. To my final build a 16v manta gte irmsher exclusive.

I drive with the same engine, and can't fall in love with anything else that is sensibly priced. OPC isn't half as vicious and the throttle response of these is second to almost none, which is where the OPC lacks enormously. Just press and hold that pedal and your smile will widen as the revs rise.

Tian kay Ich weiß, dass der Kommentar schon ein Jahr alt ist und ich will auch gar nicht erst mit Dir streiten, aber Dir ist schon klar, dass der Zweiliter Einspritzer mit 110 PS bei unter 1000 kg Fahrzeugmasse schon anders zu Werke ging als ein heutiger Astra mit 100 PS?

Tian kay Tian kay Das Schöne an den alten Opelmotoren ist ja, dass untereinander so viele Teile passen. Die 1000 kg bezogen sich mehr auf den Ascona B, der ja weitesgehend sehr ähnlich mit dem Manta B ist. Mein Vater hatte genau solch ein Exemplar mit besagtem 2.0 E, jedoch lange vor meiner Zeit. "Früher war alles besser" ist totaler Quatsch, da hast Du vollkommen Recht. Rostvorsorge, Verbrauch etc hat damals den Hersteller leider nicht interessiert. Dennoch hatten die Autos damals etwas wie eine Seele. Welches Astra Cabrio hast Du? F?

Tian kay Ja cool! So was würde mir auch gefallen! ^^ Wir hatten mal einen F Caravan, 1.6er 8V mit urgewaltigen 75 PS, Cool Dream Ausstattung und marseillerot. Und ebenso sehr gute Substanz. Ich weiß, wovon Du sprichst... ^^

Tian kay Den Motor kriegst Du nicht kaputt, den musst du höchstens ohne Öl fahren, dass der schlapp macht. Krass, dass der mit so viel Ethanol lief. Der 2.2er packt ja angeblich nicht mal E10 als einziger Motor. Naja, der kleine 1.6er war schon ein feines Motörchen. :)

@Sandro M. Rebl Wenn das Auto das net aushält gehört er sowieso restauriert. Diese "das ist ein altes Auto und man muss es durch die Straßen tragen"-Mentalität bringt dem Auto gar nichts. Das selbe gilt für hohe Drehzahlen, ausgenommen man hat ein Vorkriegsfahrzeug, ist technisch komplett unsinnig. Wie man selbst mit seinem Besitz (hier: Fahrzeug) umgeht ist einem selbst überlassen. Diese Donut-Nummer vom Video lässt darauf schließen, dass der Fahrer Erfahrung mit solchen Manövern hat, das Fahrzeug war jederzeit in seiner Kontrolle. Was Klugschwätzer in der Regeln nicht hinbekommen ^^.

My friends father both from factory Ascona in pristine state and literally car rusted and decomposed in garage in relatively short period, though mechanically they were ok cars. Here where i live u can find a lot of old cars , but mentioned ones disappeared from the scene in early 2000, you cannot find them anywhere, they all became dust :).

Had a 1976 Opel Ascona B 1,9SR for 1,5 years bought in 2002 as my daily driver until I wrecked the steering on a mountain road hitting a stone... Bought it for 500 dollar, now they cost 20.000 dollar and up here and I am considering buying a Porche Cayman instead as they are in similar price range lol .... (Crazy prices now on these Ascona and Manta B....)
