It makes more sense to first locate the fill plug, check if you can loosen it and only THEN drain the gearbox. You'll be in a world of trouble if you can't fill it back up.

the refill plug is not tight at all. I've just checked mine and it was easy to open. And there is a second one a little below with a 15mm hex screw, that one is not tight neither. Just use the correct wrenches sizes and it's be easy. It's 8mm Allen for the screw.

F40 takes 2 lite to refill because 0.4 litre still remains after draining. Total oil in f40 is 2.4 litres

U pitanju je Z19DTH agregat po GM specifikaciji, ili narodnim jezikom Fiat 1.9 JTDm. Mjenjac je F40 i neces imati problema ako pratis fabricke specifikacije GM-a. U pocetku se sipalo 3.3l, a nakon revizije preporuke su 2.4l. Govorim konkretno za kombinaciju iz videa, s Insignijom nemam iskustva.

how can you check oil level. I have some gearbox oil leak in my Astra OPC but how to measure its level?In my case capacity is 1.8l but refilling always with 1.7l (official Opel dealer said that)

you can not check oil level in a gear box. You need to remoove it to mesure how much you've pulled out.

I drained into a marked container and replaced what I took out I’ve read you can be about a half liter above or below recommend and you can remove the check plug and see if it is at the correct level

@@ivanpetrov2280 drain plug has a center screw for checking fluid level by removing this small screw any excess will drain out ... to fill it the plug on top of the transmission is where you would do that... always make sure you can fill it before draining it...

If 4 litres were removed it would be sensible to add 4 litres to refill. Especially as original 4 litres were added during factory gearbox production.

@@CarlosAlberto-es6qc I got an insignia 2009, bought it 2 months ago; it drives perfectly except that downshifting from 3rd to 2nd upon braking is sometimes harsh (but if I was braking firmly the downshift form 3rd to 2nd gear is very smooth) so I thought it needs oil change as I don't know anything about its service history the car is now 94500 KM

and how you know your oil level is in right target? much i know need reach 85C to measure the oil level

i dont think the gearbox oil get to 85°C, that's the temperature for the coolant liquid. Even the engine oil doesn't get to 85°C.

Sir I changed the gearbox oil of my opel zafira it took 2.3Lfrom one week now in the winter I cant shifting down from 3rd gear to 2nd gear when the car is cold but when it get warmed up the gear became normal. Did you get this problem?

what kind of oil you used? I see most people use 75w oil, but if its still not good for you you should use thinner oil like 70w

There isn't a overflow hole for the F40 gearbox, from factory till 2009 this gearbox came with 3+ liters of oil but gm came with a revision stating that if the gearbox has hard shifting when cold (1-2 gears specifally) the required amount of oil will be 2.4 so you need to put 2.2 as 0.2 remains in the gearbox

@@verdele in mine f40 there is an overflow plug for the transmission oil. Next to the drive shaft. Check it

@@paulkomn946 Dude, there is no overflow plug for f40 in the vectras... check the haynes manual, go check the gearbox, that is not an overflow. U sure you aren't confusing it with the M32 wich have one and they look pretty simmilar? It states very clearny, you measure the fuel before pouring it in, simple as that
