Top notch video! Especially loved the onboard/outside footage and the annotations. I also laughed when the driver would rest his hand on the open window like he was going for a sunday drive 😅

I heard this Sierra had over 600hp. So almost double that of the Vectra.

They were quoted to have around 500-560 hp back in the day :)

When the Mondeo replaced the RS500 in touring cars, Ford found it was 3 seconds a lap quicker around brand's hatch gp circuit on testing with only 300hp because they got the Mondeo to handle so much better because the RS500 rear suspension was based on the Granada mk2 rear suspension.

The Sierra was short wheel base, sitting up high & running on bicycle tires. They couldn't go round corners like they should've.

@@toddc6682 Not really! The Group A Texaco cars ran 8.75 x 16 fronts and 10 x 17 rears. The Mondeo ran 8 x 18 front and rear, so smaller rubber than the Cosworth. The main problem according to Andy Rouse was the rear suspension and regulation height rules meant they couldn't get the car low enough to handle much better.

That cosworth had him on the straights but in the corners the Vectra has better traction

Man that sierra has got the legs on the straights. When they raced them here at Bathurst with the boost turned down they didn't even make 200bhp. With the boost turned up to 60psi they made over 600bhp 😎👍

there are several of these Vectras here in my country, here they were sold as Chevrolet with 2.0 and 2.2 engines. It's a really nice car❤️

Great example of power vs control. Funny how the driver seems more interested in resting his hand on the window than changing gear. That rev limiter was seeing some action.

Also my late father had a Vectra the 2litre GLS version 140mph it would on the M40 motorway in the UK very comfy even at that speed , the huge tyres helped a lot to keep it stable and it had traction control too. 138bhp i think but 100mph in 3rd gear it was so long geared

Opel's got significantly better brakes & handling (or just a better driver), but the Sierra has got serious straight line performance leaving the Opel standing. The Mercedes just ran away from both!

Not "a better driver" in the Opel Astra...; he looks tired and nervous after only a few laps because the Ford Sierra is powerful... I think if it was A.PROST "the professor" for example behind the steering, the Opel Vectra should be in front of the Ford Sierra at the end... When you have less power, you have to be very clean, sharp and regular if you want to have a chance to win by a mistake of your powerful chalenger... 😉‼️💯🔥🛢️🏁🏎️🤓

The Ford Sierra is a dragster... 💪🔥😜‼️ The driver of the Opel Vectra is always touching something and moving in his seat... The "magic switch" of more power... 😁, or the brakes balancing...⁉️🤔💯🔥🛢️🏁🏎️🤓

The Sierra RS500 is truly out of this world. The Opel has over a decade of evolution and is just a mouse running away from a cat.

Different gearing does that. Vectra can keep up in the corners but not on the straights.

The Group A Sierra RS500 has a turbocharged 2 liter 4 cylinder engine with around 550 hp +, the Super Touring Vectra has a 2 liter 4 cylinder naturally aspirated engine with around 300 hp, since turbos were banned in Super Touring. Super Touring replaced Group A in touring car racing, so there is a big power difference between these 2 cars, that`s why the Sierra pulls away on the straights.

hiting the limiter nearly every time , poor engine . Very nice fight , looks like the sierra drives the fighting line the whole race , but its normal because he only can fast on the straights , different speed advantages interresting to see . the onboard sound remebers me to the 90s when i played TOCA 2 on the PS1
