Fed up with always wearing tank-tops and shop pinnies Granville decides to court a cool image. He gets a pair of shades and a nice fashionable shirt,but all that stops him from being the archetypal medallion man is a medallion. Perhaps a cocoa tin lid can provide a substitute.

As an American who lived in England in the mid '80s, I miss the small shops and markets with all the people who had a great sense of humor. As well as watching the different channels that showed me a comedic way of being that's helped me to get by in this crazy world. Thank you for posting all these amazing shows!

I'm really grateful this is on youtube. Open All Hours was a really classic bit of British comedy and I doubt there is any sitcom these days that can really compare. I am shaking my head at Granville with his open shirt and his cocoa tin lid made up to look like a dangler. 🤭🤭🤭 These two together made comedy gold.

Good god! I forgot how ridiculously funny Jason and Barker were together! For David Jason, it was his delivery and his antics, same thing can be said for Del Boy! For Ronnie, it was his facial expressions as well as his delivery, same thing can be said for Norman Stanley Fletcher!

When seeing this episode of Open All Hours, a TV producer named Ray Butt though that David Jason could play the lead character in the new show he was working on. The characters name was Del Boy!

It can't have been this episode that Ray Butt saw to make him think David Jason was right for Del Boy because this episode was broadcast in April 1982 by which time Jason had already been playing Del for two years.

This is my favourite episode I've watched it lots of times and still laugh out loud every time...... come on admit it we all remember our own terrible efforts at being cool when we were young!!
