Imagine being Warwick Davis. You starred in a very well made, cult classic movie. You enjoyed making it, you did really well with it, and people know you for your role in it. So you spend years and years talking to producers and studios trying and hoping to get a sequel made, and finally one day, decades later, Disney comes to you and says "Hey there buddy, we're finally making that sequel you always talked about, do you want in?" You show up at the meeting, maybe meet some of your co-stars, do a meet and greet........... And then you get handed the script. I'd phone it in too, if I were him.

Willow is a B movie at best. Warwick could have always said no, but he wanted the money. No shame in that but no need to feel sorry for him either
@vishnu79
@vishnu79 Жыл бұрын
@@benlewis5312 The original Willow movie has a fairly dedicated fanbase, myself among them. I grew up watching Willow, Barbarians, Conan, Ladyhawke, The Labyrinth and Dragonslayer, none of which were theatrical blockbusters, but were great movies, nonetheless, mostly because the actors really put their all into the productions, and you could tell. Warwick, Kilmer, and Ron Howard spent almost a decade through the early 1990's trying to get a sequel made, maybe for money, maybe because they liked the characters and story, who knows, but Lucas never greenlit anything. Some actors seem to actually enjoy playing certain characters. Henry Cavill seems to have a connection to the Witcher and Superman characters, enough to actually care about them at least. Karl Urban has said that Judge Dredd was one of his favorite characters and that he'd be do a sequel in a heartbeat, even if the movie wasn't a mega-hit. I think Warwick liked the character, and was excited by the offer from Disney to finally get the sequel he'd tried to get from Lucas all those years ago. Go watch his performance in the original, and then watch his performance in the show. Pay attention to his voice, his inflections and tone, his animated-ness, his interactions with the other actors. It's night and day.

@@Jizzlewobbwtfcus because it's not for us its for the kids and I don't mean they are "kids shows". The purpose is generally to indoctrinate the youth with their world views. If they corrupt all the classics with their views it does pass towards the kids. The saying "you are what you consume" is very true for children as they dont have a proper filter to accurately break down the information they receive. This is why the phrase kill the past or variations of it continue to show up. This is also why they depict anyone against their views as vile. It's why the older popular characters are dragged down and made to look bad because the goal is to instill this concept into the youth aswell. They also want to warp morality of children due to the absolutely messed up morality of most protagonists these days. The way most heros do things that are generally reserved for villians or anti-heroes but they don't get addressed and are in fact praised for it. This is why they hire random "activist" writers that have nothing to their name. They are hired to write as activists. This doesn't fit all recent shows/movies but it does for a lot.

Jennifer Lawrence - dropped out of school aged 14 without any qualifications, messes around with some middling TV and movie roles, totally lucks into The Hunger Games without anything to back it up, rides that luck the best her limited talent can manage, drifts into the semi-obscurity of actor short on talent, intelligence or education but still clings to the idea that she has any relevance. There’s a parallel universe in which she’s living in a trailer in Alabama, a single mother, working in a diner (oh wait, sounds like a good film opening…..).

To be more recent, in the same cinema Strange World has already only one screaning a day with 5,5 audience rating. Meanwhile, those mad lads decided to start playing a little dated Demon Slayer: Mugen Train at the same time and let me tell ya... It crushes SW: rates over 9 and screens 3 times a day. 6:58 It’s funny because I used to think the opposite. 5 year old me thought I could only relate to female characters especially if they were Disney princesses. When kung fu panda came on tv one day, I thought “ugh, boys film”. I watched it anyway since it was animated and I loved it. A good story is a good story. And I didn’t have to be a male, anthropomorphic panda and lover of kung fu, to relate to him.

Kind of surprising no one pushed back on what Chris Gore said about Cameron's statements on testosterone. No issues with Chris's opinion on Avatar or any other of his interventions, but James Cameron was not misquoted. Journalists selected that particular quote and put it on headlines for shock value, yeah. The man still said what he said. If something, reading it in full context makes the statement much worse. He's basically calling out, and rejecting, toxic masculinity-which he says is something he regrets from his youth years-by using the "testosterone is poison" methaphor. No misquote, just pure cringe. And it's not the first time Cameron displays that kind of attitude.

Important note about Disney: while it often looks like their money comes from the parks they have actually relied on their media for the lion share of their profits for some time. If the parks take a dip the board has historically not lost their mind, the fact that their cash cow-Disney+, which they sacrificed their other media for- is losing money, is very very scary for the board

They're definitely going to drag out and ruin Dragonslayer as well. Remember the plot of the thing? The kingdom was appeasing the dragon by sacrificing young maidens chosen by lottery. One of the main characters, a young warrior, turns out to be a girl whose father hid her from the lottery by disguising her as a boy. The dragon is established as female too - there's a clutch of eggs. The whole thing is perfectly positioned for a godawful "feminist retelling".

Thanks for another great listen. You guys are on the money and keep up the good work! Unfortunately the attitudes that have plagued Hollywood these past years are also very present around Europe and elsewhere including here in Sweden where films are generally funded by governmental grants. Perhaps a change will be coming here as well soon though. I want to give a shout-out to two Swedish female action stars that I've had the honour of working with and that have preceded the "Hunger Games" with approximately 40 years each. Firstly Christina Lindberg whom did the action vengeance film "Thriller" / "They Call her One Eye" (1973). Tarantino mentioned this film as his inspiration for "Kill Bill". Secondly, Inger Nilsson, whom immortalised Astrid Lindgren's "Pippi Longstocking" and her adventures. Though most of her stories are her using her superpowers for good in common day situations, I would argue that films like "Pippi on the Seven Seas" (1970), with her battling pirates is a classic action adventure story, making her a female action/adventure superhero. Films many of us during several generations now have grown up on.

After hearing Mauler’s list on what ‘Marvel humor’ is, I think I made a realization. It’s jokes for people who don’t care about cinema as an art and don’t care about getting invested in good story telling. That’s why none of the jokes come from the characters, but from an outside meta perspective where the writers talk about how stupid the comic book movie is. It’s an outsider pointing at the nerd culture and mocking it while still milking it for all its worth

OH GOD! Chris is right. Avatar 2 is about Whalers on the Moon (of Pandora)! I'm sure Futurama will be around for its royalty cheque later. I thought Avatar 2 was a basic 90 minute story CRAMMED into a three and a half hour runtime on the one side, and a visual spectacle on the other. I weakened in my stance against Disney for Jim Cameron and I'm sort of certain I shouldn't have and sort of glad I did.

You can totally program a game in your bedroom and have success with it. There are even recent examples of this like Vampire Survivors. You just can't make something along the lines of God of War in your bedroom, but indie games are some of the best and most beloved games that come out. I feel the need to comment on the conversation about the willingness of a character to sacrifice themselves for others and understanding their situation. That can be good to an extent but the trope I hate the most in fiction is where someone goes ahead with a self-sacrificial plan that is unjust and should never have even been considered on moral grounds just because someone told them to. I can understand willingly laying down your life for the sake of friends family or country, but a lot of low quality books and movies have a damsel in distress moment wherein the female does something self-sacrificial that should not have been done if you look at the situation logically in the male lead has to go save them. Though sometimes in modern works it is the other way around. Either way I've always found this highly annoying.
