Open Bottle Caps with Keys, Lighter, Butter Knife, etc.

I learned trick this back in Japan when an older gentleman showed me using a lighter, with an air as if everyone should know this trick, so we shared a good laugh. I've used it ever since.
You basically want to make your grip on the bottle top really firm and use anything hard to pry the bottle cap up on the pivot. First, fit the prying device (eg. a lighter, knife, scissors) under the cap and above your grip, squeeze your grip firmly, then give the prying device a good tilt (don't go too softly when you pry). The bottle cap will pop open easily.

My pleasure. I usually go for a standard kitchen/butter knife, squeeze the top of the bottle with my left hand until the meat of my pointer finger is tight, then wiggle the knife between my finger and bottle cap, then finally use the meaty finger as a fulcrum, and the cap always pops off so easily. I go for the butter knife since it's right there with the spoons and forks, instead of rummaging through the other utility drawers to find the actual bottle opener. In fact, I can't remember the last time I used the bottle opener.

It comes in handy when camping or whenever there's no bottle opener around. I seriously still just use a butter knife. Ie. there's a bottle opener in the exact same drawer, but I reach for the butter knife every time lol.

Cheers! I'm currently having fun re-doing my fruit fly traps video these days with the red wine too! You only need a tiny amount of the wine, and the rest of the bottle cannot go to waste lol!

@@yeyamusic It gets easier in time. Like I think I wrote somewhere here, I reach for the butter knife instead of the bottle opener as I find it quicker/easier. The other items, like car keys should only be used in a pinch when nothing else is available. Thanks for the funny comment!
