This physics video tutorial provides a basic introduction into the open tube manometer also known as the u-tube manometer. It explains how to calculate the absolute pressure of the gas in the bulb and the gauge pressure given the height difference in the two columns. In addition, it discusses how to calculate the density of the unknown fluid. It contains plenty of examples and practice problems.

So if the gas pressure is less than the atm then it acts like a vacuum
@deependraverma4382
@deependraverma4382 5 жыл бұрын
No, It doesn't act like that. Forces just become unbalanced. If it was a pure vacuum then the whole liquid is shifted to the other side because atmospheric pressure is 10^5 Pa and Vacuum pressure is 0. Hope it helps!!

@barreltapper
@barreltapper 5 жыл бұрын
So if the pressure of the gas is removed, the mercury would mount on the right side to the same level as the left side,, does this mean that gravity is pushing and pulling at the same time? In other words why does gravity need to find a level?
@zyrojaymontero7631
@zyrojaymontero7631 4 жыл бұрын
because gravity is a downward force acted upon things so we need to consider it.

So if you just use the height difference of 600mmHg and convert to Pa, you calculate a slightly different value: 181,317 Pa. Can you reconcile? Especially given your video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/boGYf5-mrayHbbs Same for the second example: 47,995.92 Pa
