A Short Hike and Lil Gator game are rare gems where I have zero suggestions for improvement. They're perfect at what they set out to be. Great list!

I thought about it as I watched this vid. A Short Hike is a 10/10 that I beat in 90 minutes, partly because it doesn't have time to go wrong.

Another little open world that is inspired by A Short Hike is Haven Park, really liked that one, too.

I played that one too! I felt like it was a less successful tribute act than some of the picks here, but I did play through to the end of it :)

small open world games are some of my favorites! so much less intimidating than their AAA counterparts and you actually feel like you can see and do everything before getting burned out

Absolutely same! Also nice to just be able to play a game in a weekend without signing up for a month of game time dedicated to one thing!

Two games that come to mind which are probably more of a weekend's worth of play but tangentially fit the brief (both garden-related) are _Mutazione_ and the little known (perhaps flawed) gem _Before the Green Moon._ And I'll always take the opportunity to mention the ever-delightful _Frog Detective_ trilogy. Finally, almost certainly not for everyone, but if you give it the space it needs, few open world games offer such a fully immersive world as _Diaries of a Spaceport Janitor._

Love Mutazione! Was bummed that the studio shut down this year.

Thanks for these recommendations. A Short Hike is a perfect game, and a memorable pick-me-up when I was going through a rough spot personally.

Same here, it really does capture that feeling of going for a carefree summer walk when you have nothing else to do. And we all could use more of that :)

Been really enjoying your indie recommendations over the past few days. Great to hear some words of praise for my favs alongside glowing reports of games heading to my wishlist. Some low-fi indies games that you've no doubt heard of but I'd wish to throw into the ring are Toem and I Am Dead. Two gems that always deserve a bit more time in the limelight.

Toem was really nice! Maybe I should do a video about generally very short games you can finish quickly

I'm really glad the algorithm recommended you to me. It sucks that most of the lower sub/view channels are stream vods or let's plays which I have never watched more than maybe 2 hours of in my entire life. I want to see channels like yours recommended to me, but instead I get soyface open mouth reaction thumbnails on a 6 hour stream vod when I have never watched anything resembling it. I watch videos like these, amd I'm glad it was recommended. Hope to see you grow my dude, you seem very professional

Haha thanks, I promise that if I ever do an open-mouth thumbnail, it will definitely be satire

Hi, nice recommendations and content. Can I suggest polishing up the audio a little bit? The first transition to full volume almost gave me a heart attack, They are generally loud. Also, there seems to be a bit of unwanted detail in the voicework: lips smacking, tongue, saliva, and breathing. Being slightly further away from the mic and having a bit of a noise gate would help. Don't get me wrong, it's still good audio, but I couldn't help noticing these.

Good feedback, cheers. I have tried noise gates but not been a fan, I found it added an unnatural quality to silences and slight clipping here and there. Out of curiosity, are you listening on headphones or something, at high volume? I read that 90% of people watch on phones, so they won't be picking up on audio detail as much. I also went back and checked the first musical interlude and the volume transition feels pretty gentle to me! Anyway, thanks for the comment, good stuff to think about.

@@GamingInTheWild good, loud, headphones, yeah. Inevitably I hear the detail. I also watch on phone, but use my bluetooth headphones. I thought that would be a somewhat standard way. Surely if I listened on raw phone speakers, I wouldn't have noticed any of that.

Yeah that makes sense. I actually struggle to get much volume out my Shure SM7b, even with a Fethead for additional clean gain, so I keep the mic close simply for volume; also, my recording room isn't treated and so I found that recording with the mic close to me minimises echo. But I agree that we end up with breathing and mouth sounds as a result. I will think about how to get more headroom out of the mic and record slightly further away. I'm very audio-sensitive myself so I know what it's like to pick up on stuff like that. Sibilance, plosives and room echo will all make me stop watching something.

Oh, a SM7b. Just tried mine last Saturday after being stored away for months. Yeah, they are known for being quiet, but I'm a metal singer, so I don't have these issues. I'm sure you'll figure something out.@@GamingInTheWild

Tried positioning the mic a little further away and using a bigger muffler thing on today's video! Hopefully a bit better :)
