To me, the LLM is not what's impressive here. It's the image generation. It's actually crazy and nobody is talking about it. It generates text nearly perfectly and has amazing consistent character generation, it can even generate 3D models from 2 generated images. I think it may be Sora.

afaik, there is no way this is completely neural network end to end, transformers just do not have the ability to work on audio. audio requires continous values, and vidio would require way too many different tokens to encode. I think what they actually did was remove the final layers of video/image to text, and audio to text, and instead trained chatGPT to be able to tokenize/embed the outputs of these networks itself. that way you dont need to go from medium to text to representation. you can just go from medium to representation

The demo was very impressive, but all of this can already be done with the app. This represents very little progress. And with Sam saying there likely won't be a big new model release, just increments, and he may not even call it GPT 5, it's becoming increasingly clear they hit a wall. Nobody has been able to do better than GPT 4. I don't think anybody has figured out how to make a GPT 5 that improves GPT 4 in the way GPT 4 improved GPT 3. The whole world is building AI and we have only gotten small, incremental improvements for the past year and a half.

It makes absolutely no sense to be sitting on some epic new model and not only not bragging about it or showing it off but actually telling the world we may just do incremental releases and may not have a GPT 5. That makes no sense. But it makes perfect sense to act that way if you don't have a GPT 5. I think they maxed out what they can with the existing training data. I fear GPT 5 was a bust, only delivered marginal gains and became GPT 4 Turbo.

This requires a systematic approach to slowly developing conformity. An approach that governments and business have used for decades. It also helps sustain industry secrets. They will only release assets in a timeline that maintains their superiority and protects their business interests. Even true AGI is infinitely more valuable behind closed for now. It will remain so unless other organizations or open source projects threatens this. Dropping 4-0 then 4.5 before 5 and do one with 5 already completed is an extremely common practice in all forms of business. We get s glimpses of capabilities they’ve on wrap for well over a year.
