This is a great comparison between this two platforms. I've been using Woo-commerce for almost 3 years but its main problem is with downloading digital products..most of my clients complain of getting errors during download and it results me into manually sending them their digital products via mail. Is it a common problem for other vendors and is there a solution to this problem

I have just tried WooCommerce... I spend a day to try to setup a store, choosing from varyaty of free themes, most of them you need to start creating from 0, because they don't look as the image when you browsing. Each of my picked theme requires payment for Pro version, in order to have most of the functionalities. With OpenCart, it tooks me around 1 hour, to setup the store and have a demo running. Not sure still which to pick, perhaps i will continue to research, but so far, configuring the store with WooCommerce is not that easy as they advertise it, or at least not for me.
@EcommerceGold Жыл бұрын
Setting up WooCommerce isn't the easiest thing to do and the themes don't generally install the demo content so they look like they do in the demos. I agree that Opencart is easier to set up but WooCommerce offers a lot more in terms of customization, plugins, flexibility etc but you need to find what is best for your business.

Thanks Paul, very insightful comparison. Question: at 16:55 when looking into ORDER management, do you know of a Woo Commerce plugin you would recommend?
@EcommerceGold3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is called WooCommerce PDF Invoices and Packing slips, it was the one I used on my WooCommerce site, I've done a guide on the plugin that might be helpful www.ecommerce-gold.com/how-to-print-woocommerce-orders/

Thank you. No you need to migrate your data, products, customers etc from Opencart to WooCommerce and I'm not sure of the exact process for those two platforms

WP is a blogging platform which is changed to and e-commerce using plugin where as OC is made for e-commerce out of the box.
@EcommerceGold3 жыл бұрын
Correct but that still doesn't answer the question as to which one is better for ecommerce.
@rawpamper3 жыл бұрын
@@EcommerceGold obviously Opencart. I can understand people using WP for ease and plugin.Which also means vulnerability, slowing of speed . If you have a site and you want to integrate 5 -10 products there, then WP is good . But for a stand alone ECommerce one should go with an e-commerce framework and not a blogging platform. It depends what one is looking for, considering their seriousness of their e-commerce in the long run or an immediate fix. Sometimes too much of WP update is overwhelming 🙄

It's not really obvious though, just because a platform is designed purposely for something doesn't mean that it is actually good at it but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

In your video, in 11:16th time, you have mentioned that things like theme selection, plugins/extensions that are installed will impact the performance of the eCommerce platform. Also, the performance depends on eCommerce hosting quality. Yes, I agree with both these points. But, should we also give some thought about the tech stack used? How about NodeJS instead of PHP. NodeJS has the option of non-blocking I/O systems, and thus it can handle multiple requests simultaneously and make an eCommerce store efficient in handling multiple requests at the same time. I do understand there are very few eCommerce Solutions on NodeJS. But, there are these Reaction Commerce and Spurtcommerce. And, many Developers do say, in terms of request handling, NodeJS is better than Python and Ruby also.

Thank you for the in-depth comment but my videos are aimed at beginners to ecommerce to help them decide which platform is could be the best option for their business, plus I am not a developer, so I look at it from the perspective of someone who is new to the platforms and also someone who has built and run a few ecommerce sites. If I started delving into the development side of things, I would be aiming and a completely different audience and as there are other KZbinrs out there who know a lot more than me about it, I will happily leave that to them.
@victorfrancisjonathan19143 жыл бұрын
I do understand that your target audience is different. Audience with technical interest will also surely bump into your video. So, I thought, from my point of view if I add a comment, with my knowledge, it can be helpful for such audience also.

I found that Opencart theme and extension are many bugs after 2.0 version. Their 3rd party programmer should be no full testing before launch their theme and extension.

Hey Paul, can I design the site in Webflow, export the code (HTML, CSS, and any Javascript) and customize the Opencart website this way? Or will there be technical problems?
@EcommerceGold3 жыл бұрын
Hi, I honestly don't know as I haven't looked into customization options within Opencart beyond what is available within the platform/dashboard. There may be some technical issues as Opencart is known as not being the most developer friendly platform, the best place to ask would be the Opencart community forum as there are people in there much more knowledgeable than me about the platform.
@J90JAM2 жыл бұрын
No. The code webflow creates won’t just port over. Don’t forget that Opencart is built using PHP too.

I'm not planning on doing any Magento content in the near future, due to it being more of an enterprise level platform, which requires specific hosting and in many cases a Magento developer. It isn't a great option for people new to ecommerce, which is who my channel is aimed at.
