@@Coldfront15’s a REALLY good price don’t get me wrong but ammo isn’t really something you go cheap on in the normal world. Your ammunition severely impacts your shot placement (obviously) so that’s my theory to why it’s so cheap. Because it is just that, cheap. 400 bucks for hours of fun at the range though isn’t bad. Just the hunting/sport/defense(just incase a fireteam is assaulting your ranch from 300yds I guess) kinda sucks

Looks like it was kept well. I am curious on the failure rate of such rounds. Remember chemicals also degrade although I'm not sure about a damn thing on it. Curious if they keep the same performance for instance. Edit: I know ammo can be stored for a while and the expiration date is just there for liability reasons. I also know chemicals lose potency over time even properly sealed. Everything has an expiration date - I'm curious on the time and failure rates. Just a quick Google search says misfires do increase. So you can stop telling me that they'll last for a while. Yes. Details is what I want!

For those who need more info: The CMP is a Congress-charted program that sells government surplus firearms and ammunition at super cheap prices (compared to the same stuff on the private market). The CMP also teaches and encourages marksmanship and hosts and sanctions matches nationwide. This ammunition is generally fantastic to shoot, especially for modern M1 Garand owners. It was stored well over all these years, and functions well and groups pretty decently in most rifles. The only priblem is that most of the super cheap surplus .30-06 has dried up over the years, so when you can get it and for cheap, go ahead and grab it. You do have to go through a couple easy steps to be eligible to purchase from the CMP, but it's well worth it. I got my first M1 from them many years ago, and have bought both the Greek surplus and Lake City ammo from them, with great results on all.
@fortheloveofnoise
@fortheloveofnoise 2 ай бұрын
Proof of marksmanship is not an easy step and is the reason I have never ordered from them...because they won't allow me to. I even have a C&R but still can't because of the lack of "proof of marksmanship".

Wouldn't say easy, its really more test of patience if anything. You have to be apart of a club that has CMP eligibility which can get expensive they claim 25 dollars for most clubs and under which is a lie atleast here in the southwest near New Mexico and Arizona everything Is 150 and over. The marksmanship also can get expensive god forbid you live in the middle of nowhere cause you'd be SOL for proof of marksmanship It's a club only for a few that have the easy accessibility to the resources and its understandable why so many refuse to join CMP myself included.

Out of the 10 or so M1s and 03s I've sent lead down range with only one liked LC. It's accuracy is pretty horrendous. Better luck with greek, but that stuff is loaded inconsistently. Danish M2 was well liked. There were some commercial companies loading to M2 specs. I would by that if you want accuracy. Buy the LC stuff for nostalgia. I just reload LC, TW and Greek cases now.

Wrong. It looks like that but when you pay taxes and it goes to military budget, you're paying for *the army, police* etc to use it. Not for some random youtuber or civilian to get them. Taxes is for the government to provide a service that the country/government need to provide a good service (at least in theory) not to work for you to have fun. They're not the people gun dealer for personal use, they're the ones to buy the guns for the army. And if civilians want the weapons for their fun or personal protection they have to pay for it or else most weapons would be possessed by civilians not by the army.

Hey let me give you some advice: if you ever open a box of ammo, keep it until every bullet from the box has been used. Because if the ammo is bad and causes a misfire, malfunction, or destroys the firearm, you can isolate the ammo that caused the problem and throw it away. Also you could be entitled to compensation from the ammunition manufacturer.

Just in case anyone is curious on why 400 per ammo can: 40 rounds (2 boxes) = 5 8-round clips. 400 gets you enough to exactly fill 50 M1 Enbloc clips. The standard army issue requirement on paper was still 100 rounds per man but 200 became the norm in combat by filling their ammo belt pouches and then carrying 2 cotton bandoliers with 6 clips in each. Plus a few in pockets, clipped onto their suspenders or in the backpack. Its pretty much the same logic why 1 can 30 cal can of 5.56 holds 420 rounds from the factory: Its enough ammo to fill 14 30 round magazines. Or 2 mens' standard combat load of 6 mags in the vest and 1 in the rifle. Edit: Of course, given the date of manufacture, its probably more likely just loose ammo to fill 4 machine gun belts to train machine gun crews or send over as military aid that was never needed....

Be safe firing those, I’ve heard old ammo can do some funky stuff sometimes

@user-oq7zh9ej7ptrue but that was a freakishly hot SLAP round that almost took him out. They’re pretty volatile rounds to being with.

I did not even know the CMP even had them anymore. How much was it? I've had ammo from around these years and the quality is great. No hang fires or jottor or weaker rounds, good accuracy. If you don't use m2 ball spec in your m1 make sure to buy a new gas plug for use with modern. 30 06.

$21 shipping is the amazing part. To ship a 36lb non-oversize box USPS was $122 for me last week.

Several years ago I came across some .45 ACP rounds from WWI. Shot perfectly well without any misfires.

Correct, but are they not bent near the shoulder of the shell case. My M1 Garand bends them there when they eject shell. So those have been fired at some point.
