Great video, much appreciated. Looking at a very similar setup in Mongolia but based on a Tundra for a bit of extra room. Any issues with the CFX-75? How much room between that and the 2nd row seats in your setup? MSA drop slides are great, I use the MSA DS40 currently. Looked pretty easy to lower the bigger fridge, how about lifting it back?

Can you raise the rear hatch all the way up with the awning deployed? Such a sweet setup.

What type of rack do you have? I have an iKamper SkyCamp 3.0 on a prinsu rack and I’m trying to figure out how to mount an awning to it.
@HeRo-qd6tk5 жыл бұрын
Good video. I have the batwing and the iKamper too. I dont like my awning. Pivots keep breaking. I have to keep spare one. I find it very fragile. Love the iKamper though.
@overlanddaddy5 жыл бұрын
Yea. I have had mine break a few times too. Gotten pretty quick about replacing them. I need to get better about being mindful of the wind and anchoring down right away.

The batwing is so rad. Also that campsite looks familiar 😄 So does that dude in the background setting up his RTT.

All jokes aside, is the batwing good stuff? I can imagine it's either awesome or a flimsy waste of cash.

Hi there- Nice setup. Do you know the total height of the LC200 with the Ikamper? Thanks
@alexkaa63515 жыл бұрын
Hi, nice setup! I have the same tent 2019 version on top of the Rhino Rack cargo platform on top on my 2018 JLUR. Couple quetions if I may 1) are you able to close the tent with any stuff left inside? Sleeping bags, etc.? I was trying multiple spots inside but it is really impossible to close it properly with anything inside. 2) I can really tell on the video, what is your install base for the tent? I was going to get this great batwing awning but it seems that tent width is every tiny bit wider than the cargo platform and once you open the tent it, the bottom edge of the tent cover, where hinges are attached, will hit the inner side of the awning. Have you observed this in your setup? Thanks!
@overlanddaddy5 жыл бұрын
Hey Alex! Thanks for the commnet. RE #1 - Yes! We put our sleeping bags in there. They're down sleeping bags so the squish quite a bit. I favor the backside of the iKamper in terms of placement. It's a bit of an art to get stuff in there, but after enough attempts, you'll learn. RE #2 - The RTT is mounted using the iKamper mounting brackets. It fits almost perfectly. I ended up putting the iKamper off to the passenger side slightly so that when it opens, it's doesn't interfere with the Batwing. Hope that helps!
@jonathanjackson6693 жыл бұрын
I am looking at a very similar setup but with the iKamper 2X, which has the same footprint on the rack. I'm glad to see that the awning fits on the backside of the RTT. I was a bit worried about the clearance. Which mounts did you end up using for the Batwing?
@jonathanjackson6693 жыл бұрын
Also, are you using any additional mounts for the tent to move it up vertically so that you don't have conflict with the awning mount? Looking at iKamper's website, the tent looks to be quite a bit larger than the rack, which has me concerned that the tent and awning could not be mounted at the same time. Details on your actual configuration with the specific mounts would be great!

Did you figure out your question? Im having the same fear. I sold my Gobi Rack when I saw a video with the Ikamper 2.0 on it and it looked like a muffin top/top hat. Im like No way!!! I should have measured but I didnt even think the Ikamper would over hang 5 inches or more on each side. I got a Eezi Awn K9 platform, their lite awning, shower cube and Now I am not seeing how their gonna fit under the Ikamper having a 4runner. I install May 11th and Im researching wtf did I get myself into. I wanted the awning to help the ikamper wings per se....
@jonathanjackson6693 жыл бұрын
@@nehemiahtello9671 Only after I had received my brackets for my roof rack did I feel like his MUST have been custom or from some 3rd party manufacturer, as neither of the Front Runner awning brackets that fit this awning fit adjacent or below the rack and RTT. That means mine stick way up I'll probably have a conflict with the Ikamper once I get it. My current set up, which includes the smaller Smittybilt Overlander has to sit about 6 inches away from the awning to allow for the spring rods on the driver's side to fit. I'm not very happy so far with this set up and will probably look at other mounting options for my awning.
@IsaakBaker3 жыл бұрын
also facing this issue, did you get to a conclusion at all? I'm worried how far out I would need to mount the awning to be able to clear the RTT when open
@jonathanjackson6693 жыл бұрын
@@IsaakBaker I did not. I am now looking at fab'ing a mounting plate for a different awning mount to allow mine to hang closer to where the top of the awning will be just above the top of the rack so that the tent can overlap the awning and not interfere. I am thinking of using 1/4" alluminum plate cut to bridge two of the Front Runner slats and then use my existing Gamiviti mounts that would then bolt between the slats in 3 places along the awning.
@dmay9493 жыл бұрын
What kind of a roof rack is that that allows you to have the batwing with an ikamper centered?

It's a Front Runner rack

Love the Ikamper rooftop tent not a fan of the awning I think I prefer the one by the bush company it doesn’t require poles at all.
@overlanddaddy3 жыл бұрын
The Rhino Rack 270 awning is 1/2 the price of the bush company. Not exactly comparing apples to apples there. But I do agree, the bush company makes some great products.
@russellwood87503 жыл бұрын
@@overlanddaddy yeah I don't really compare apples to apples I just try and put the best meal on my plate LOL. Me personally I try and do as much research as I can to try and find the best possible product now I'm not a wealthy person I'm just a blue collar worker I just save up all my pennies and try and buy the best product I can find I'd rather pay the little extra then have regret. Most of the time it works out for the best not all of the time but most of the time.

Thank you for sharing. I have one question, when it rains, does the water run down between the iKamper and the batwing on the driver side? Is there a way to prevent rain water coming down the gap?
@overlanddaddy5 жыл бұрын
It does, unfortunately. There isn't a way that I have found to prevent that.

I got a Mr Rogers vibe from the way this was shot. Nice job. Simple constructive criticism: 1: If you’re going to film this way (again, it’s fun and different), maybe a lapel microphone or some other on-body microphone would help make sure we hear you even if the camera is further away. 2: Got to take a swig of that beer between the batwing folding out and opening the RTT. To many precious seconds wasted there 😆 Great video and I’m looking forward to watching more. Edit: spelling

Thanks so much for the feedback. it means a lot! I'm new at this so I'm open to suggestions. RE #1 - we do have a Rode mic, but i'm not super happy with it. I think i purchased the wrong type. I was considering getting a lapel mic of some sort. I need to do some research. If you know of any good lapel mics or have suggestions on that front, let me know! RE # 2 - Noted! Hahaha!
