I worked at CompUSA for a while and we ended up selling only 4 of those drive bay storage boxes to the same person. He bought one, and came back the next day and bought 3 more. I commented to the guy that they must really work well, he responded with "Yeah! They're great for hiding my weed!"

Because most unboxing videos are garbage like "UNBOXING $20,000 WORTH OF AWESOME STUFF!" (note: awesome=boring) with overly shocked guy in the thumbnail and red arrows and circles placed randomly. The person in the video thinks shouting and jump cuts every five seconds is a personality, and most of the views come from parents letting their toddlers watch KZbin on their phones and autoplay takes them to that kind of nonsense because it's trendy. Clint is genuine and enthusiastic. It's kind of like how I don't really like watching Star Trek, but listening to people talk about Star Trek is one of my favorite things. When a person genuinely loves a topic, it almost doesn't matter what that topic is, listening to them talk about that topic will be interesting.

52:25 i legitimately can't believe you got sent a Hyper NeoGeo 64. i heard these things spoken of in legend around the late 2000s; the 1up Retronauts podcast was an early gateway drug to all of this classic gaming goodness for me in those days, and one of the hosts (Shane Bettenhausen) recalled playing Samurai Showdown 64 in a local arcade & then never seeing it again. the other hosts were reluctant to believe him at the time, and frankly i never thought i'd see the real deal; i sincerely hope you make a video on that deeply obscure platform, as i can't think of a greater White-Whale-Holy-Grail from my adolescent canonizing of retro games than those boards you now hold in your possession.

Previous Inspiron 9100 owner here. I have a couple videos on the upgrades I've done to mine in the past about... 10 years ago? Included adding small southbridge heatsinks to the heatpipes for the middle fan to pass air over and get more cooling, downgrading it to a 2.4GHz HT Northwood for battery savings, and upgrading it to a Mobility Radeon 9800 (part number 0G5117) and doing a thermal shim mod for that to be rid of the thermal pad and prolong the card's life. There was a mod to do where you had to get a GPU made before a certain week/year and you could bridge two pads on top and unlock more pipelines, as the MR9800 was just a cut-down X800. Aside from this I also had a 1920x1200 panel of which later went into my current Thinkpad T500. I used that laptop as my main laptop for three years from 2010 to 2013, when a single-core P4 could still be used for day to day tasks and pwning noobs in the occasional game of HL2 Deathmatch. Another fun thing, what you have there is the 12-cell battery. that has a built-in subwoofer. Those were all recalled. They sent out 16-cell batteries as a replacement as late as 2013. Mine had such a battery and with the 2.4, I could get about 3 hours on a charge whereas with the Prescott I'd get maybe 30 minutes if I was lucky.

The Thrifting Clint is in hunter-gatherer mode, looking to gorge himself on big-box games in original shrink-wrap. He gets grouchy when his usual prey of woodgrain items goes unsatisfied, and resorts to offerings to the Lucky Rock during his foraging for good will. The Unboxing Clint, by comparison, has his appetites satiated by offerings from others trying to calm the beast. This particular video shows the Unboxing Clint in a particularly good mood, as noted by the duration of it.

Clint! That Pentium Pro motherboard might come in handy soon because the Intel P6 architecture celebrates 25 years in November! A CPU that us normal humans could only dream about, and now when we can play with them in retro systems its amazing how powerful they were compared to the regular Pentiums. In just 6 years the P6 scaled from 200MHz all the way to 1.4GHz.

I second that. He said "one of my server racks", so he has more than one rack, presumably with several servers in each of them. That's a lot of equipment. I'm curious about its purpose. That Psion cover can be pulled off to reveal the battery compartment underneath. I remember it lost all data if you didn't swap battery rather quickly. I really like the calculator on there, as it shows the numbers and operators in a single line that you can go back, correct mistakes and continue to work on. Ideal for large sums etc. But again, the worry of losing data due to lack of battery power marred these as well as the model 4s.

You could get an EPROM cartridge that stored data if you took the battery out. There was also a RAM cartridge, with a small battery in it, the battery was hard wired in so not easy to change it out, you needed a soldering iron to change the battery!!!!

My mom had a Inspiron 9100, I remember many evenings playing Splinter Cell on it as it was way faster than my Athlon XP desktop! Pretty fascinating device, the speaker in the battery is a "sub-woofer" and the GPU is on a separate daugter card, ostensibly for upgrades which I don't think were ever released. Very much in the desktop replacement class of the day, even the CPU is socketed. When new the battery lasted about an hour and a half for office work.

The extra sad thing: I actually used to work for CompUSA back in that era and didn't even know we sold those. Then again, we sold all kinds of weird crap at random. Christmas season "impulse buys" were always interesting. Like the year that our store got 10 "Mr. Beer Homebrew kits" (WTF does that have to do with computers?). Not a single customer had a chance to buy one, though. The managers and sales guys bought them before they even hit the floor.
