From the Rios Disney VHS collection, I'm going to be focusing on my Neon Mickey's for a while. Enjoy!
Distributor: Walt Disney Home Video | Original sale pressing [Ultra rare] | Catalog number: 16VS | Release date: September 1980 [after a March 4th Fotomat/rental date]
Synopsis:
An apprentice witch, three kids and a cynical magician conman search for the missing component to a magic spell to be used in the defense of Britain in World War II.
Opening:
1. "For Sale Only - Not Intended For Rental" bumper
2. Blue warning screens
3. 1978 Walt Disney Home Entertainment logo ["Neon Mickey"]
4. 1966 Buena Vista Distribution Co. Inc. logo
Closing:
1. Cast credits / "The End - Walt Disney Productions" bumper
2. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea trailer ["Sauté of unborn octopus." Eww..]
3. Pete's Dragon trailer [Believe it or not, I recently saw this movie for the first time. It was .. fine. Don Bluth's animation blending with the live-action really was the best part though.]

I have this tape. Got mine at a thrift store back in 2021. My copy also has this exact same opening and closing.

Funny how so far that I can recall, nobody has come across a tape of another Disney movie with any of the trailers for this movie when tapes with trailers of the other two Disney hybrids from the same era have been located. Based on the title clip from “Walt Disney and You,” it was likely the same 1979 reissue trailer on the restored laserdisc and DVDs.

I agree with you on the animation on "Pete's Dragon".

It’s interesting how they seem to have been unable to find its original trailer when compiling and creating DVD extras. Name dropping of you-know-who was no more effective than it was for an actual Sherman brothers musical from another studio, *Charlotte‘s Web,* four years earlier and was likely counterproductive. Home video really came to the rescue of a lot of post-1964 movie musicals because they could now be viewed outside of the context of the social and cultural chaos at the end of the decade and the fallout over the next few years. These two movies, *Annie, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,* and *Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory* seem to have been the biggest beneficiaries of these post-hoc ancillary markets that did not exist when most of these movies were made. It was the demand for a better quality laserdisc that got *Bedknobs and Broomsticks* restored, and while *Pete’s Dragon* got three LD releases, none were technically uncut, just less cut than the cut versions. The early 1990s digital sound reissue was the best. Archive dot org just turned up a reminder of how badly cut it was on *The Disney Sunday Movie.* They made the most complete versions of these films a privilege of paying for The Disney Channel on cable and having a VCR to tape that or rent what WDHV was offering.

Early trailers in Disney videos were just the theatrical trailers.

“Walt Disney and You” couldn’t possibly have appeared on video releases prior to the release of *The Devil and Max Devlin* and *The Watcher in the Woods,* but I used to have a copy of this movie from this same issue that had it. So it seems that there are two versions of 016-1. And even if the film had never been cut to ribbons, its home video debut probably still would have been time compressed. Based on the running time of *Pollyanna* listed on its original issue, it, too, was time-compressed. That movie is another reason you can’t claim Walt would have systematically chopped every musical down to size. He was willing to let movies run over two hours if he believed there was a reason to justify it. In *Pollyanna’s* case, he actually overruled David Swift by letting it run to 134 minutes.
