What a great start. I know what Genevieve means. Just shot my Excal bulldog 330 this week getting ready for the statewide opener. Shooting new arrows, 2 inches shorter and about 500 gr. And even with different arrows the scope was dead on. These Excaliburs are so reliable. And that Twilight DLX scope is a keeper. Lol.

Nice work! I've been out poking around on the outskirts of a few areas of public that I will try to get into this fall. I can't recall ever finding big rub lines and dug up scrape lines in September before but I'm finding them in one spot right now. Plus, one huge community scrape. Biggest I've ever seen. Good luck the rest of this season! Hope you find time to get on a few this fall in PA!

I'm loving the Burris Oracle X on my Mission Sub-1, new for me this season...thanks for the recommendation! Started off the season with three hunts this weekend, taking home one doe per trip!!
@SirSloop1919 Жыл бұрын
Check out some cut on contact broadheads instead of mechanicals. I shot mechanicals for years and just considered them a one and done. Never sharpened them, just grabbed a pack and let it rip. They seemed "kinda sharp". I'm now shooting some heavy single bevels this year that I took down to 2000 grit sandpaper on a KME sharpener, strop finished. Never had such a lethal combo with absolutely mirror finish, razor sharp, bulletproof head guided by that oracle x. I had mixed results with mechanicals. Some hunts went like your hunt here with great blood and short tracks. Some went bad where I had to track for hundreds of yards and lost the deer. I'd say more than 50% of the time the blades were mangled. Think about it... I'm never going back!
@jimcarriekarker8399 Жыл бұрын
Congrats to the both of you on starting off the year with some great success. Glad to see everything is back up and running with the Oracle. I purchased one and it is arriving today. I am a little skeptical given your issues but I plan on hunting more from the ground this year and the lack of movement ranging will help and as the deer moves I don't need to verify yardage. Another excellent video production! Keep them bugs in Maryland!
@Deathbybunjie Жыл бұрын
Good luck with that scope, it can give you headaches but totally worth working through it in my opinion. It is the perfect balance of technology and simplicity, providing exactly what we need out there in my opinion.
@jimcarriekarker8399 Жыл бұрын
Sighted in with no issues!! OMG what a game changer being able to stay focused on your target while ranging. Well no issues is a little understated. I did lose 2 arrows going low. Had to video tape the 2nd one to see where it was going. That was a10 yds. The good earth has absorbed 2 Ten Point arrows. @@Deathbybunjie

Yep you still need to sight in with those Mechanicals but they are a lot easier and more reliable in my opinion.
@shane3878 Жыл бұрын
@@Deathbybunjie I did. The Truglos don't have practice heads. Heck, I ruined 3 bolts and a broadhead sighting them in. No problems during sight in. Came back in and set up a target @ 30. 1st shot same arrow arrow was pretty much dead on. 2nd shot same arrow was 8" low. 3rd shot 7" low. Going to have to chalk it up to the AXE405 being too fast for Truglo. 1st shot w/ heavier Swhacker was quite high.

Congratulations on all that delicious meat. I've also had problems with lighted nocks. "Nocturnal, Launch Pad" lighted nocks to be exact. After a few shots they crack on the button that pushes in to turn them and they turn off when they pass through the deer. Now I use the cheap ones from Amazon and I have to say the quality of them are waaay better. And they stay on because the off switch is internal. They are half the price for double the amount.

I shot two in one sit years ago with my old Jennings Devastator. I shot one and it bedded down right in front of me. The other two deer walked off. The first deer was a liver shot. A few minutes went by and the deer expired right there about 20 yards from my tree and the other two deer came back, but only one left. The second deer was a double lung and heart shot, went 40 yards and crashed in sight. I was shooting a 2219 arrow and tiny fixed blade broadhead, a Bear Bruin Lite if I recall, with a 1 inch cut. I think the blades were .020 thickness carbon steel. The Devastator I bought in 1986, actually shot extremely fast back then for the day, about 250 fps at 125 pound pull and man was it LOUD. They tried to duck the string, EVERYTIME.

Sometimes when an arrow cuts through a rib it can leave a very sharp edge and slice a vane off as it's going through just like a razor.

Good point, I've had my hands cut on Sharp ribs if you're not careful so it could certainly peel off a vane I'm betting

Great video ... But it made me wanting a more complete explanation of why you didn't use your new super Swat. 10 years ago I purchased 2 Matrix 355s and since then 3 more new Excalibur Micro series crossbows. I get high from the latest/greatest but the thrill is temporary and I return to the tried and true ... I'm not totally sure why. In your case I think you would want a few more fps ... all of mine are in the 340 to 360 range. But the 355 didn't come with ADF.

Look at those 3 inch Swhackers!! Great shooting Rich and Genevive. Hey Rich, I know your hooked on the 3 inch Swhacker but is there any chance you might do a review with the Swhacker 231? It's a 2 ¼ inch 125 grain. The 231 gets no love on KZbin. There is literally 0 videos on the 231. Maybe you could put it on Bungie 4??? Haha. Love the videos!
