Wait they just give you comments a day before the actual grade comes out? That sounds awful. What am I supposed to make of comments. I feel like that just induces more anxiety.

There's a pedagogical choice behind that decision: You're not supposed to be focused on grades. You're supposed to focus on improvement and performance. Grades tend to eclipse everything, otherwise. It is actually a hassle to set up a machinery by which grades and comments are disaggregated.

​@@swicheroo1 But couldn't you easily argue that students would be more focused on trying to attribute a grade based on the comments they received rather than actually focusing on the content or feedback provided in their comments? I would just provide a grade and comments at the same time. The whole day separation sounds nice but I don't think it really helps students to focus on improving their writing. In fact, I think many would become increasingly worried in anticipating their grades.

I visited Harvard & bought a tee shirt in their gift shop several years ago - a beautiful & quaint campus. Congrats a B+ is impressive if you didn't have solid bearings while writing! Quite often the initial paper in a course is graded more stringently, so there's a good chance for an 'A' range paper next time!
