I was enamored with this piece from the first time I heard it and tried for years to learn to play it on both piano and guitar. Could never get the [rhythm? syncopation?] right. It's like there are two time signatures playing at once, yes? There has to be some abstract groove in there but I could never pick it up. I'm always impressed watching people play it, especially on guitar. Bravo!

Thank you so much, both for your comment and nice words! Yes, it is a continuous triplets upon eights polyrhythmic pattern, which is quite tricky to play. It needs a bit of time and patience to figure it out and to get used to it. My best regards!

btw, your cinematography, which is sublime, always makes me think of Rumble Fish which also has a haunting, inwardly transcendental soundtrack by stuart copeland, directed by capola. I'm sure you are already familiar though. did you ever see the american version of the film Breathless which used Opening? probably other movies have used it too. I hope you are happy and healthy my talented friend!
@guitar_arrangements4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I like Rumble Fish soundtrack, those golden eighties....Also, Breathless was a kind of a cult movie in my teen years :) But, honestly, didn't know until now, that Opening was a part of a soundtrack. This Glass' theme, unlike many of his film music scores, wasn't intended for movie, as far as I know, but is perhaps the most cinematic theme in his opus. In my case, I tried a compiled take of my own "movie", or visualisation, closest to my associations, parallel with my personal "movie" in actual life connected to the piece. Thank you for your inspiring writing! Stay safe and healthy dear Kris!

Vladan, this is so beautiful! I know you don't have time to write out the transcription, but could your just share a video of your playing without the overlayed images, so we can look at your hands and try and learn from there? It's so beautiful. It would be amazing if you'd share it! Thank you!

Beautiful. Did you find it challenging getting the triplet finger pattern against the quaver thumb? It has a 3 against 2 type rhythm. I'm also learning this tune and it's tricky to get the rhythm!!

Hi Vladan. As allways a great experience, listening to your fabulous playing. Thanks a Lot for sharing it with us ! I also like the great "sound" You have combined to it. Do you use a flanger or chorus effect box ? Or what kind of equipment has been used, in making the nearly "wawing" sound ? Best regards from Denmark 😊
@guitar_arrangements4 жыл бұрын
You are most welcome dear Alf! Thank you for all your kind words also, so much appreciated. Nothing special, modest in fact, old digital player, and digitally added chorus. All the rest was my deep emotional connection both with the piece and the time when I recorded it. Greetings to Denmark!
@alfagerup4 жыл бұрын
Ok. Thank you Vladan for answering. Still great video recordings You've made. Have You made any CD guitar records with Philip Glass and / or J.M. Jarrés compositions ? Best wishes from Denmark 😊
@guitar_arrangements4 жыл бұрын
@@alfagerup No, unfortunately, I've started to think of such ideas just recently. I am, as always, more focused on arranging. Recording and performing solo guitar on decent level is very demanding.

Fair enough. But if at some point you are recording a CD, I would very much like to buy a copy. Sincerely, Alf
