Opening Plenary - Towards Himalayan Connectivity | HFF 2024

The Himalayan region has been connected for centuries through social customs and traditions, geographic factors, geopolitics, natural resource management, and trade and economy. The opening plenary discussed the importance of encouraging and strengthening this connectivity and made suggestions on improving intra-regional linkages. The speakers discussed the pivotal role of a supportive policy space for institutions working in the field and the need to overcome geopolitical challenges for effective development efforts aligning with the well-being of the Himalayas.
Himalayan Future Forum (HFF) is an initiative to encourage multi-faceted dialogues on the Himalayas by bringing together stakeholders from different countries and sectors. Currently incubated as a center as part of the Nepal Economic Forum, it will emerge as a separate not-for-profit entity over a period of time.
HFF 2024 was the first flagship event of the forum. It consisted of four types of sessions - keynote speeches, panel discussions, conversations, and presentations - that talked about climate, community, and connectivity in the Himalayan region.
