@@AlmostOffGridGrandmacre-zs5eu I've got to get my new bags of flour into a bucket. I try and replace what I've taken out.

Great video! I have not tried storing in 5 gallon buckets yet. I need to figure out some more space. LOL You are really living the dream and doing so well at it. You are an inspiration!!

@@womanoffgridwithdog well as for space you can raise your bed and put buckets under it 😊
@womanoffgridwithdog20 күн бұрын
@ that could work. I have some stuff under my bed now that I could put in the loft.

I relate to you in many ways. I've started putting thin strips of wood on top of my bucket/cases before I stack any more on top. The lids sometimes fail. A friend of mine had an awful costly mishap. I've learned from her mishap. Great video

@hippiechickoffgridmaine8625 Good tip. That was my first fail and all my buckets had been moved from my old place to this property so I was able to have a good look at everything. Putting it back in storage by the best by date again was a huge chore took several days lol. ❤️

With proper food storage, I find that food lasts beyond use by dates. Thanks for the video Lori.

And you save money. The rice now cost $46.00 a bag.

Definitely. I buy a lot of food products in bulk and I also buy up when there are specials. Lori, I would love to hear your story. Where you live, what led you to choose the off grid life, perhaps a look at your home and property, how far you are from town etc. Your videos are great and full of good knowledge! 😊

@@lindahopkinson17 We have a gas station. We are 30 min from 1 town & 45min from another town. We lost jobs because of mandates in 2021. Decided to renovate house, sell it and move on. We've been watching offgrid shows since 2015 dreaming about it. Last child moved out so we took the plunge.

This is awesome. I’ve learned something new today. One they had bucket openers. I had no idea that’s on the list now I have a few questions. What type of bags are they sealed in and how do you seal them? Do you try to take the air out and do you know what the cost difference is from 2017 to now on the rice and flour
@OffgridWorld-w7f15 күн бұрын
@exploringmybackyard There's a quick video in the trailer playlist of packaging flour. The rice was $25.00 for 40lb bags on sale. That same bag of rice is $46.00 today. I would get flour for $5.00 on sale. The sale price of flour is $10.99 now. The mylar bags are 7ml thickness. The cheapest place to get the bags is 72 hours.ca out of Burnaby BC, if you spend over $100.00 shipping is free.

@exploringmybackyard You should also freeze grains for 3 days (kills any eggs from hatching) then bring it to room temperature and process.

@ thanks for the info. Need to start looking into this. I will watch the video as well.

Did you seal it or buy it sealed, ready for storage?

@@nancydunn3265 I sealed it. There's another video showing the process. It's in the Trailer Playlist ❤️
