These units used to hang out at stockport in the late 70's and early 80's as I remember them there. Top review!

An excellent model, with an incredible amount of detail, even on areas that are not normally visible. Well done Heljan.

Just recently bought a BR green one. Superb model! Remember seeing the blue ones as a kid in the late 70s and early 80s quite regular on the Manchester to Buxton line!

Everard Junction has got footage of his class 128 running in one of his most recent layout updates. I think it's the December 2014 or January 2015 Layout Update. Hope that helps :)

Further to your comment about Class 128 units pulling a tail load, during fairly recent work on Barmouth Bridge a similar unit was used to pull freight wagons. This was because other 'proper' locomotives have too heavy an axle loading.

I love all of your videos Will because you do not miss a single detail

I just had to watch this video on the class 128 again, it is just stunning. The model just cries for sound and little diesel smoke coming out of the twin exhaust pipes, which would not be easy to do but..... Just imagine how beautiful that would be, sigh.

Hey Will, these locos were fitted with 2 Leyland 230hp engines, one for each bogie as you can see underneath. Excellent video as always!

I just read an article on the Class 128. Not only did they have two Diesel engines but they were not diesel electric, they had mechanical transmissions.
@alexjenkins10799 жыл бұрын
I just wish we had something like this today (perhaps based on the class 172?) instead of Royal Mail using 7,5 ton lorries, and used them to deliver mail on non-electrified routes, with passenger trains still having a compartment to put post and bikes, and then having small vans to link up post offices to railway stations. All main stations should also have platforms dedicated to postal trains.

Hi it looks like it had bus engines, my father was an engineer for Glasgow Corporation Buses and they used to get calls from the then British Rail to see if they had a spare engine for use in a DMU and they would do the same if they were short of an engine.

"Only 10 class 128s were built." Here in the United States, there used to be an electric locomotive (HHP-8) operated on the Northeast Corridor, and 21 were built. 15 for Amtrak, and the other 6 for MARC's Penn Line. (MARC is a commuter rail system in Maryland, and only the Penn Line is electrified.) They weren't very reliable, and, at least Amtrak's units, needed unscheduled maintenance every 12.5 days on average. Because of this, Amtrak's units were in service from 1999 until November 7th, 2014. MARC's units are currently being replaced with diesel locomotives.

When the Class 128 was on the front of a passenger train, was there also a locomotive pushing from behind, in push-pull configuration, because I heard you say that this unit had very low power. Was it so low that it only had just enough to move itself?
@gavfranc9 жыл бұрын
It is an interesting model. I have checked t'internet and they had 2 engines each with 230 bhp so a more respectable 460bhp total. They were actually 15 litres in capacity so little power for so much volume. Buckets of torque I think though.

Your obviously too young to either realise BR DMU/Parcel Cars history and correct use of an apostrophe. 1950's is correct :-) Please take less time talking about the boxes and reading out all the instructions. BTW the diagram isn't "an exploding diagram"!
