I had an ancestor (Thomas Boyte 1665-1715) who was "Attained of High Treason for leveling warr against his Sacred Majesty James II under the Duke of Monmouth" after his name was found on a roster of rebels. The Duke lost his head. At age 19 Thomas was sentenced to servitude in the sugar cane fields in Barbados for 10 years. After James II was dethroned he and the other "rebels" received a pardon. Thomas came to Virginia in 1691, Thus becoming our family's first ancestor in the New World. Tom Boyte, Arizona USA

The female pelvis is a different shape from the male pelvis. Does that mean that the male pelvis of a 'trans woman' changes instantaneously to that of a female just as soon as he gives himself a woman's name and vice versa? I don't think it does does it?
@marykayhawkshead3255Ай бұрын
Drawing upon my 45+ years in medicine, I have seen many, many pelvic radiographs, (X-rays). Given that a pelvis is described as android, (male) or gynecoid, (female) does not mean that variances do not occur. Genetic information can be transmitted with errors that cause the pelvis to form with male or female traits that are not typical to the sex of a fetus.

4:35 While mentioning that two marks on the block is an interesting observation regarding his execution, how can we be sure that this block was not used for two different executions? I mean, he may have very well had his head chopped of on this very block, but who can say with any reasonable certainty that either someone before or after him wasn't executed on the same block. Did they not reuse these blocks, or was there a new one for each person executed?
@HandyMan657Ай бұрын
I'm curious, are you suggesting that they had an axe and block made for each execution?
@jackreacher5667Ай бұрын
There where two types of Treason, Petty and High, High treason meant for a commoner that you where beheaded hung ,drawn and quartered, and your head was spiked and placed in a place for the public to see, the body was quartered and sent to four different places around the country. For a Noble person they where beheaded and placed on a spike but the body was not hung, drawn and quartered , the heads of all people accused of treason was left to rot . Its unlikely the authority's would of agreed to the remains of Lovat to return to Scotland (the English where particularly hard on Irish/Scottish rebels.) Because of t his its unlikely that he was buried in the chapel, perhaps the Fraser family crypt might be a better place to look, but in all likely hood the body was buried in a paupers grave near by.

@@Will-nc7lp Fair point, but revolts in Wales tended to be localised affairs rarely extending into England, of course when they captured (If they captured) leaders they where executed, When the Jacobite's under the old and new pretenders revolted the threat to the capital (London) was very real and scared the ruling elites. There reasons for revolt tended to be political not cultural (IE replacing the Hanoverians with the Stuarts) Ireland was a slightly different matter , here the revolts tended to be large dynastic and powerful family's taking sides and fighting each other along with religious issues. Wales was also incorporated into the English sphere a lot earlier with plantations of ex-soldiers being placed into Welsh towns for years after, thus Anglicising the population to an extent . This is a general overview and not specific in any way with lots of exceptions.

The fact that the block had two cuts in it that in turn supports the claim that it was Simon Fraser's execution..........just wow. That sounds like some undergraduate pipe dream to me. When you consider the centuries that that block has gone through since. Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm an academic, and I fully understand the excitement and seduction of anecdotal evidence...... But it's stupid, juvenile, and completely nonacademic.

2 marks means 2 times full cut through. Illogic.
@joeblog2672Ай бұрын
As for the number of marks, two would have been a very possible outcome. Even a third would not be impossible. But however many marks does not automatically indicate the axe passed through the heart of the neck. In fact, most of condemned dispatched by the axe, suffered more than one blow. A first impact may have passed through only part of the neck area and thus made its mark on the block without finishing the job. Throughout history, some condemned individuals have even requested a heavy duty sword be used in place of the axe which was known for its messy inefficiencies.
