This train set from Hornby features a Gresley P2 locomotive 'Cock o the North' in a splendid apple green livery. It really is a fantastic set for the money and the three teak coaches only add to the splendour.

26:31 In America, the baggage (or luggage) compartments are at the front of the train, just behind the locomotive, while the end has observation cars with big windows so passengers can see! A very nice set! I might get this set, if I ever find it! But I kinda wanted the Flying Scotsman (set or loco) for a very long time!

The lifting of smoke out of the chimney is not just about the efficiency of the engine but its also important to make sure smoke doesn't cling around the locomotive too much which would block the driver's view of the line ahead. The fairings to either side of the chimney are there to create air currents that help push the smoke away. The 1920s and 1930s were the golden era of aerodynamics research and massive progress was made in the understanding of air flows.

I like the way the track mat creates the impression that you've got a much more complex layout. Maybe in reality this is not the case, but on the film it's not immediately obvious which track is real and which is printed and that's pretty cool.

Frankly I love the 2-8-0, even the American Mikados, or Mikes. While many American railroads had larger locomotives, the Katy or MKT railroad's largest freight locomotive was the Mikado, 2-8-0, and their largest passenger locomotive was the Pacific, 4-6-2.

They built the first two of the P2s and realised that the A4s streamlining was great for jetting steam away removing the need for smoke deflectors. So the other 5 were built with the same streamlining as the A4s so they are often mistaken for A4s.

Just as an FYI, Mons Meg is a Medieval Cannon or Bombard, built in 1449 for King James II by a maker in Mons, in Flanders, Belgium. She weighs in at @ 6 tonnes and, with a calibre of around 510mm, she threw a projectile weighing some 150kg a distance of 2.5 miles (4 kilometres . . . . ) She's situated in Edinburgh Castle . . . .

Nice model, I I have a picture of this locomotive when gresley decided to put the a4 streamlined front on the loco. He didn't put a whole a4 streamlined body on it, he just put the streamlined smoke box cover over the smoke box and that was it, but I am not completely sure.

Really Looking forward to the completion of #2007 Prince of Wales. It'll be Great to see one of this long lost class at speed. Not only that but isn't there another P2 project to make a working replica of Prince of Wales, in her later form that is, with the A4/Buggati styled streamlining. I think they've cut the frames recently or down time ago?

Through my research the P2 is the most powerful loco in Britian with 193 KN, these are the next heavy haulers worth a mention; Princess coronation class 180KN, GWR King 179KN, LNER Peppercorn A2 179 KN, BR 9F 176KN. Anyone disagree with those figures take it out with Wikipedia :)

I wish Hornby did "modular" train set boxes - so the sleeves for the locomotive and wagons/coaches could be removed and stored separately - I've had a few train sets, dont have room for the boxes so they get thrown, but now I got stock without boxes :( . I make my own storage trays (with foam and things) but it would be nice to be provided with a box. N gauge modellers have their stock in boxes inside sets . . .
@acynder1

I cut them whit hot wire so I can extract their storage tray out of the set. Its not hard, but then you cant have them Inside a box, only the froam.

Brick Boy 31 Model trains is a expensive hobby, no doubt about it. It is as IC82/Will says, you start off with a starter set and then upgrade for the rest of your life, slowly but surely. The key is to show your parents how well you take care of your stuff and their stuff over a long period of time.
